As far as I'm concerned, if they're able to glance at chat to read an ss, they're able to look at the minimap and check lanes (As a general rule I always check the map when I'm moving forwards at bot, and when I go past halfway at top). Let's say I'm top and I'm under my tower pinned by their minions and you can't see the enemy Lee Sin, it's pretty safe to assume he's off roaming looking for a gank or gone B so if you have wards up, plan your escape and constantly checking them and if you don't, then don't extend, simples.
If I know that someone's gone for a gank I generally ping on the map the direction they're going, but it seems people expect you to sit there and type "ss" as soon as the enemy disappears, which ain't gonna happen.
I had a game today where our Olaf solo pushed top lane 34 mins into the game with the ENTIRE enemy team missing. He got killed and then had a go at us for not saying SS? I guess he hasn't heard of the minimap either.
To be honest I don't even see the SS calls 90% of the time because I'm either looking at the minimap or too focused on something else. Would be a better game overall if people took it upon themselves to be aware of what's going on rather then relying on others.
I do think people should make an effort to ping if they know / suspect where an enemy hero is going though. I'll actually pay attention to it for a start

Rofl I sometimes get people like that, it's almost as if they can't think for themselves.
I'm of the opinion that it's courteous for your team mates to call miss but I certainly don't depend on it seeing as it's solo queue.
Wards are still the best protection.

TBH by the time I see an SS and look at the map to work out who may be ganking me imminently it's too late anyhow. I ignore chat and keep a periodic eye on the map to make sure people are accounted for. This has the added benefit that I can warn other lanes if I happen to see a mid lane character heading south for example and that alone has turned possible ganks into ambushes on several occasions.
Playing aggressively on lane is rarely a good thing. I LOVE seeing aggressive early game players, because I know I'll win. Pushing too hard just leaves you open to midlane or jungle champs coming in from behind and since you're at my turret, you got a long way to run.
Personally, I feel that early game is safety. Kill creeps and forget about the champs unless they make a mistake and you got a 100% chance of a kill. Until I have my ulti on Nocturne or even Warwick there's not a massive amount I will gain from attacking directly until L6 and above. So I kill creeps, play it safe and gather some abilities and items while I do it.

i dont always call ss, but then if im playing with randoms that need an ss that is the least of my worries

The general opinion was that it's a good idea to warn people since it's a team game but that you're daft to expect random people on the internet to call misses for you when you have ways to do this yourself.
Most of the time people get ganked in the laning phase because they push rather then last hitting and then wonder why the jungler kills them 3 million times.

Agreed - SS should be called but you should always be keeping an eye on the minimap to get an idea of the ebb and flow anyway.
The real answer is get in on premades - find a group you enjoy and develop with them. Some players like solo and good for them but i've said it numerous times if it wasn't for our own community I would not still be playing this nearly 2 years on

The more damage the carry does the less you need to tank
Edit: I will also add that regardless of whether they're right or not to demand you don't last hit you're almost guaranteed to have some tool shouting his mouth off at people for silly reasons if you solo queue. You can't just go AFK when they annoy you.

unless you can get mega feed you will always need a tank to intiate and thats suicidal if u dont last hit because you wont even have boots before laning ends

That's why the tanky champion jungles or solos top, not play as support for the AD carry bottom.
