I have decided I need a new model to construct. I will build a mini power station. I've built a mini V8 engine (hand crank) which I thought was easy. I think building a mini power station that actually works will be challenging.

If you want an idea of what I'm aiming for have a look for something like this:

Notice how the lights light up! :p

I want to go one step further though, and construct a mini condenser to go with it. I'm not sure how I'll go about this but workshop tools and material shouldn't be a problem.

This will be a gradual project. Something I pick up where I can. Since I don't have a scope of work, I can't really comment on how long it will take.

Watch this space :)

I have some spare U-238 here if its any use? Or are you intending to go down the coal/gas route?

I literally haven't planned anything. I kept erm'ing and ahh'ing, but now I'm going to do it. I'll probably sit down next weekend night and start the planning / research.

P.S - U235 is the key.

Looks like it's gonna be a good project mate! Here's a few photo's of one I made about a 6months ago, it hooks up to a boiler I have and is suppose to be connected via belt to another pulley drive.

I'd like to see the progress!

Hello all. I'm just keeping this thread updated (no pictures yet). It looks like the steam turbine will be a self build - it'll be tricky but very doable. Expect to see an initial design sometime next week.

I would be tempted, following the same concept as the initial video, to replace the lights, with something a little more fun, like a micro tesla coil
