How/what preparation do you all do to your bike before going out on it?

I always clean my discs with isopropyl alcohol, clean my fork stanchions and rear shock then lube them with fork juice and clean n re-lube my chain with juice lubes ceramic juice. Is this over the top? Do people do the same or more?

i do most of that when I finish my ride so that it's ready to go for the next time

i do this after a ride not before i never put my bike away dirty.

Squeeze my tyres to make sure they aren't flat, that's about it :D

Snap... Might give the brakes a pull to ensure they will stop me but that's about it... It's a mountain bike. Unless the main mechanics (derailleurs, brakes) get caked then I aint fussed about a little dirt on it.

After a ride I wipe all the crap from my stanctions and cycle everything with fork lube, before a ride I check nothing's wobbly (cranks, headset, wheels), I lube my chain when it gets noisy!

Hey again guys,

Just getting together a plan for the build of the Nukeproof Mega whan the time comes.

I don't see any issues but would like to sanity check the Bottom Bracket and rear wheel.

Now, I will be making use of my current sealed bearing Shimano square taper BB (nothing fancy) on the Mega's 73mm bottom bracket.
Because my current chain guide is ISCG (with a BB adapter) and the Mega is ISCG 05 I assume I just tighten the guide on via the BB mount without the need for any additional kit? I have spacers available if needed, but I have never installed a BB mount guide before.

Rear wheel is a 2010 Mavic Cross Trail, Rear axle size: 9,5x135. Mega = 135mm Maxle rear. I am assuming this will be ok? Currently using Mavic's own QR that came with the wheel

These are the only Grey area's at the moment.

Depends what size BB it is as it may be a 68mm E type(extra width for a front mech/chain device plate) which wouldn't work out with the new 73mm shell.

You may need an adapter to work with ISCG/ISCG 05 sa they sit at different angles around the BB shell last time I checked.

Your wheel sounds like a normal QR which won't work witht he maxle as the maxle has it's own bigger, threaded axle that goes right through the wheel. Check with mavic or the shop to see if it can be converted.

An ISCG-old chainguide won't work on an ISCG-05 frame.
A QR wheel won't work on a Maxle rear end, it will be using a 135*12mm axle.

Thanks guys, the Sunline Guide I have also has a BB mount, so that wont be a problem (just havent fitted one before) I knew it wouldn't work on 05.

I just wasn't sure about the rear wheel or the BB. I can get that sorted prior to picking up the bike ;)

Pretty much the same as last year - it's a packed schedule :)

Doing all this :

- Fort William - Nevis Red and DH track.
- Laggan - Black
- Glentress - Black & Skills park
- Innerleithen - Red & Black options and some of the DH sections
- Some XC route's around Peebles including more sections of Glentress & Innerleithen
- Dalbeattie - Hardrock trail
- Kirroughtree - Black Craigs
- Mabie - Phoenix trail

What days are you going to be at Glentress/Innerleithen?

I'm off work all next week... could be tempted with a day trip up there! :D

Probably been done to death but what lights you guys using? Work and cycle deep in the countryside side need something with some umph - looking to spend around the £100 mark.

A colleague has an exposure joystick which is nice but seems tres expensive.

The Sukuma is now 170mm trail bike pron, with carbon seatstays ... which is hopefully indicative of things to come

Cow, is that a public show or closed to us mere mortals?

RobotXander, think about getting some new wheels that are a bit stronger. I would prefer the Maxle over standard QR as it's a piece of mind that it won't fall out... But that's just me... And I'm Welsh :D

Presumably its Eurobike, which is open to the public, but you'll have to get a flight out today or very early tommorrow :D

Cycleshow is on at the NEC at the end of the month.
