The absolute 100% fact is that The Stone Roses & Inspiral Carpets didn't save guitar shops and instead during that period you needed to stock up on synths to make ends meet.
As brilliant as John Squire was (and I stood in front of him twice) people weren't flocking into guitar shops to be like him but thankfully Noel was one of them.
Thanks to Oasis & Blur guitars started selling again.
There have only been a few times when guitar shops saw much increased sales because of bands/artists and the Stone Roses weren't one of them.
I'm not arguing that Oasis made guitar Popular again. I just wanted you to give a nod to The true innovators in the Roses.

I'll try and find that Jools Holland footage of Radiohead with Noel watching on from his set watching them...realising just how crap he was himself on guitar its great
