Gamepad - dirt2 and dirt3

You really don't need pressure sensitive buttons to be good at Dirt 2/3. I use a 360 pad (and don't use triggers, just use what would be traditional buttons) and I consider myself pretty decent at the game. Don't think you will find a better controller for PC than the 360 pad.

If you're using traction control, you're slower in slides than someone that isn't.

If you're not using traction control and you're slamming on full power straight away, there's a good chance you spend lots of time facing the wrong way.

I don't see what the problem using triggers is? Specially on the 360 controller, its so easy to use, its in such an easy to reach spot for your fingers whilst being comfortable. Try getting one and using it, and even if it feels horrible at first keep at it till finally it feels natural. Thats what I do whenever I get a new controller/wheel/mouse etc, don't be afraid of trying something new.

They are not expensive so yeah, ill get one and give it a go.

RE comment about using normal buttons and still being good... yeah i would consider myself to be very good (dirt2), but when in multiplayer its always 2nd place to someone who has the ability to feed on power in corners be it wheel or trigger. Especially in the unlocked cars. Bought a lower end wheel / pedal setup but it was cack.

Another vote for the 360 controller, I'd stay away from the PS3 controller for racing w/triggers, there sloped and don't hook your fingers like the 360 controller, resulting in either your fingers slipping off or having to grip the trigger that tight your finger go's numb!

Possibly one of the worst controllers I've ever used.

How many analogue buttons do you need? With certain adapters for ps2 controllers you can have assign analogue inputs to a few buttons.

I have a 3 in 1 magic joy box which allows me to set up to two buttons as analogue inputs. If you really don't want to deal with triggers and like the shape of playstation controllers then this is an option for you.

How do you magically turn a digital button into an analogue one.

Computer says no.

The buttons are analogue but PC adaptors usually struggle for whatever reason to use them as such, that was my understanding. Though i've always been dubious of the claim that all buttons on a PS controller are analogue.

The PS2 controllers were "pressure sensitive" but not fully analogue to my knowledge. It was just so some games could tell how hard you were bashing a given button rather than giving any degree of precision analogue reading.

The PS3 is fully analogue, but you've got to push ridiculously hard to get 100%, and you've hardly any throw to be precise over. :(
