Do people still buy on release day these days?

The Batman and Skyrim games have been mentioned, but both series of games actually are pretty quick to drop usually, Batman they were practically giving it away with cornflakes in the last year :P

Im going to hang fire on both probably till these drop.

i will be getting dark souls on or very close to release but thats about it this year, im not planning to get COD but i have a habbit of getting them when i go shopping and im one of a few that prefered BLOPS to MW2 by quite a margin and dont want MW3 unless they have fixed a lot from MW2

i just picked up mass effect 2 for £18 as with it being single player with no online activity at all the release day purchase has little draw for me

Dark souls for the special edition is pre-ordered. Uncharted 3 day one, everything else can wait.

A few really big games I'm looking forward to (Zelda, Metroid, Witcher 2 etc) I'll buy on release date/very early on or preorder, but with most I tend to wait.

It's only the few games I'm REALLY looking forward to, or I virtually know will be almost impossible to get later that I'll buy on the dot.

I buy all of my games on release day. I'm always waiting for the next date, which in my case happens to be the end of October for BF3, so until then... nothing to play on!

I would love to buy stuff on the day it is released, not games but other stuff. I pre-ordered my DSi online and it arrived a day before the official release date. That was really nice. I suppose it would be nice to have the new iPhone 4S or 5 on release day but I really don't see the point of queing up 2-3 days in advance. Just order online, so much less hassle and it comes right to your front door

Very rarely as I rent and have bought about 10 games in 3 years. I only tend to buy Gears, COD and Rockband on release day. Lovefilm usually get me the new releases first week anyway. I keep very few games so it's not worth me buying on release and they plummet in value now there are so many anyway.

If I didn't rent I could wait a month or two to play most games.

Depends as the supermarkets usually do a great deal on big releases on the 1st day, that being the case, I will buy on release day.

Not bought on release in ages. Have too many good old games to play yet, never mind the stuff that's coming out now. Good thing is I save my self a nice wad of money and disappointment.

Dead Island has just been reviewed on IGN, it gets an 8/10, its a game that i have been interested in, but with review scores like this, its gonna be under £20 by November.

Watch this space!

I never buys games on release. In fact, I rarely buy games. Anything I want gets put on the Amazon wish list and then family buy them for my birthday or xmas. I don't get enough time to play so there seems little point in buying a game on release for £40 when by the time I am ready to play it it'll be nearer £20.

I'll buy either Pro or Fifa on release this year only because the supermarkets will be selling it for about £25 in their annual loss leading campaign.

They didnt do that last year though did they, wasnt there something where you could only get it at that price with £50 of shopping or something similar?

No. I always wait untill they are less than £18. I bought MW2 on release day for £26 when the Supermarkets had a price war on it and as already mentioned, COD doesn't reduce much for months. I've always got too many games to play on anyway and a new addition to the collection can sit in the drawer for a while untill I get round to playing it. It took me 2 years to play and finish Dead Space.

Same.

I don't really follow many big releases so I tend to discover games quite late in the day anyway when they hit the £20 mark.
