American Sweets

I was thinking of visiting the shopp its only a hour away to get some root beer but not at £1.20 a can, when I was in the states last year they were 40p a can, I know they got costs but the mark up cant be 200%.

Sure, but I guess the biggest factor would be shipping costs and the fact they'd have to pay various duties on everything. Wouldn't surprise me if they're not making as big a profit as it'd first seem.

While I'm not going to try and say the prices are cheap or even particularly reasonable, it's acceptable as the occasional one-off treat :)

Used to spend far too much money on Vanilla Coke as I love that stuff, then I found they still sell it in France so every time I go over there (once every 2 months) I just load my car up with 1.25 litre bottles costing €1.48 or so each, much more realistic ;)

Iv'e used taste of america.

Same deal, postage best done in multiples. I use it to order sugar free chewing gums, just so much over in the states you don't get over here... virtualy all the flavours have been phased out in the uk leaving us with mint or mint!! are still available in the states.

Postage aside, they mark it up about 50p a pack... but with most american you get 15 sticks over 12 we have over here:p

Ya I hate mint, my sister buys a gum that the flav. is called Poler Ice. That is the worst gum flavor I ever tasted. They use to have a watermelon gum when I went to school, that was great. Not sure what the brand was though.

Shame you don't live in the Cardiff area, 3 stores appeared within the space of a few months in the city center.

Thats on top of the 2 already around here.

I was under the impression that they were? Just over here they have to be labelled as energy drinks, because of the amount of sugar?

I'm only talking from second hand experience, but a friend of mine who goes to America lots and lots always complains that its not the same. And he still imports the stuff. :p

Anyone tried tootsie rolls? They're like bland toffets but so addictive.

Now i've said that, i'm off to re-assert my alpha-ism!

Wikipedia said:
Produced in a lemon and lime flavor, it has a higher caffeine content as Mountain Dew sold in the U.S., at 18mg per 100ml[91], versus 36mg per 8 fl oz in the U.S. version[92] (which is 15.25mg per 100ml). The UK version is produced with real sugar instead of high-fructose corn syrup, as with most other soft drinks in the UK.
