I know it's nothing to do with gameplay, but those character shadow maps are straight from Minecraft. This kind of thing bothers the hell out of me and I hope it's just a settings issue.
MMO's appeal to a mass audience (look at the Steam hardware survey) so they can't have amazing graphics due to the majority of gamers not being able to run it?
I don't think it looks amazing, but I certainly don't think it looks bad. There is far more to a game then it's looks in my opinion.
I'm looking forward to playing this, but I'm not sure if I should stick a pre order in for the Collectors edition.

We both play Minecraft, so no there is need to remind us that amazing gfx does not equal gameplay.
Personally I prefer good looking foreground character shadows if a game is going to have them at all. You can get the Far Cry / Crysis engine to have blocky shadows and there is no way in hell that I'd promote those games with that.
What is the point in having an anime cgi gfx style and then having poor shadows. It's visually disconcerting for me and I stand by what I said that I hope it's just that player's settings.
Look at it this way, Everquest 1 had better character shadows added with Luclin. This was nearly a decade ago. Even KOTOR managed better as well. You'd have to be running a Voodoo 5000 to justify some of the half-arsed gfx we've seen.
Running the game at 50% for performance is forgivable, but if that is the best the engine can do then it raises serious questions about what other aspects of the game have cut corners, specifically gameplay, progression, itemisation and design.
It's still in beta - I'm sure they are focussing on the game mechanics first - easier to sort out textures etc... after - you can kind of tell from some areas looking very good and others very bad. Wouldn't worry to much yet
The totalbiscuit vid shows them being a lot better.

Do you intentionally come into these threads to find arguments with people, it's those instigating statements that we need less of.
But clearly, I'm deluding myself that the graphics are good.
My own opinion of something acceptable, clearly wrong!

CO/STO never had very good graphics, although STO's were better than most from the same genre.
I have explained my case previously in this thread - in some locations the graphics in SWTOR are decent, but in others they are very, very poor. I get why they have done this (to make it more accessible to the masses), what I don't understand is why people defend it so strongly (especially after just watching a few leaked videos).
Also, don't take everything so personally

Because most of us are adults i'd like to hope and are not blinded by next gen graphics being the only selling point of a game.
Story and Game play for me are 1000 times more important then if they use tessellation on a driods penis.
Please, just stop trying to provoke people into arguments. You've expressed your opinion in other posts, we didn't need to hear it again. Your turning into the new bhavv.

From my experience in the beta I has said that the story is excellent and the gameplay decent - equally I am allowed to post my opinion that the graphics are very average, just like other members are allowed to post the opinion that the graphics are excellent. Yes I have posted before, but the subject has come up again and with new members commenting.
I wouldn't stick too strongly to the "most of us are adults" comment, because my experience from MMO threads here and on the official forums speaks to the contrary.
Expressing your opinion is fine. I have no problem with this. But you keep going on and on and on about it.
Just move on or change subject.

Jesus, I guess all you can do in this thread is post positive comments. Anything negative gets criticised and you get labelled a troll. Shame this thread has gone the way of the official forums.
As a final comment on the subject, for those wondering, the game looks EXACTLY the same as the screenshots posted above by LateX'Dog. Make of them what you will.
Anyway, most of my comments were in relation to this:
Like I have said, it depends where you are in the game. This could have course be because some areas have not been finished yet.
AA will be in for release, and as it stands can be easily enabled through CCC anyway.

I never said do not post negative comments, i'm saying don't post your negative opinion 15 times when we have heard it all before.
We had the same problem with wab and his trolling of this post a while ago.
Express your opinion, reply to comments and move on. Don't wait until 2-3 pages later to re post your opinion and rinse repeat.

You may have heard it all before, but there are new people to the thread that can't be bothered to read nearly 100 pages (can't really blame them). The topic came up again, so I posted, mostly in response to the usual "I have seen a couple of videos and it looks better than the shots posted here".
wab was pretty negative, but most of his points were valid and only what had been posted by many members on the official beta forum.
Unfortunately, wab then tried to do a good thing by getting people into TOR beta via his guild, and someone here reported him to Bioware to try and get a free pass into the game.
We get it, you adore the game, some of us have a more balanced and reasoned approach to it.
