So I'm delving into the realm of MOBA games - I've never played one before - and was wondering which one to download first. I see both a free to play, with HoN only recently adopting the model, but which game is better overall?

I'm also told DOTA 2 is coming out sometime in the future, and all my friends are going to be playing that alongside Starcraft 2; it might be worth asking which game will best prepare me for DOTA 2.

Cheers ears

Oh god why would you ask that question? Ruuuuuun. Ruuuun for your life!

Try both they are both free but NEVER ask that question on the internet.

Edit: Also HoN is closer to DotA than LoL but LoL seems more noob friendly (stress on the word "more" there) playing either will introduce you to MOBAs.

I've played HoN since Beta, and have played LoL for about 6 months consistantly now.

They've ruined HoN, there servers crashing a while back didnt help either.

Also They have gone micro transaction mad. "buy these coins and you get early access"

If you had asked me 4 months ~ ago i would have said HoN.

But now its LoL. The best consistant, competitive and fun one of them.

Even though LoLs competitive scene is bigger. I always have the feeling that the communtiy on HoN play it to Win, when you enter a game to win. you lose the reason why you loaded the game up anyway. For fun.

Cheers Inferno. I'll go with LoL then. I'm not an amazing player, nor do I play to win, so LoL is probably the best option for me to try first.

I tried playing SC2 to win, with the hope that I would get good enough to play competitively, but I just don't think I have the "talent" (i.e. quick thinking/reflexes)

:P

I play Sc2. Anyone can have quick reflexes. But the thing with Sc2.

If you want to get good (masters, gm) You have to play a lot, and i mean a lot.

Also watch streams on team liquid. ie destiny, day 9.

Watching there streams will give you insite into builds and what not.

A majority of people that pay starcraft have seen those streams so will try the tactics in them, and if you know how to defend against them... well you know.

Defend against early pressure if you in bronze, silver and most of the time they will gg.

I play LoL a lot so my opinion is of course biased buuut...

From watching a bunch of videos HoN does look pretty complicated and the palette thats used is terrible, can barely make the trees from the minions! On the flipside you have LoL's basic graphics which are vibrant and have a really nice style to them.

I say give both a go as they are f2p.

I've been playing Hon sinces its come free2play its an ok game but took me a while to get what to do and you just get slayed constantly by others playing lol

In truth you get that a lot in LoL too, can be so frustrating but I tend to ignore without problems. It's just when you get the people who really take it too far and start to either get killed on purpose or just ruin your game entirely, lucky this doesn't happen too often and even less when you hit level 30.

I would say HoN if you want to play dota2 , LoL is designed mainly for being noob friendly

Sums it up, If you want to be remotely competitive in DOTA2, go Hon.

Personally I play games to win, I have a competitive nature. I don't like to lose on fifa or when i play 7 a side at the local astro turf. Multiplayer is a competitive arena, that's when it stops being 'just a game' it becomes a sport, and sports is about winning, i hated the phrase 'it's not the winning that matters, its the taking part' when i was younger, **** that.

I tried playing LoL, All I did was run across the map, attack a tower, it fell, I died, I respawned and ran back across the map to the next tower then rinsed and repeated.

Is that all there is to it?

No, thats exactly what you shouldn't be doing. Watch some guides on youtube to laning / last hitting.

Well server crashing really isn't an issue now.
Microtransactions are absolutely retarded and do my head in, but isn't there a similar system in LoL?

Graphics if they matter to you you could argue LoLs look better, i certainly prefer them.

I'd choose HoN if you want something that is more competitive and that is what you like.

Also you say you enter a game to win you lose the reason you loaded it up, for fun? I find the fun in winning and i'm sure many others do.

By the way both communities are awful and you should ignore the hostile ***** in both and just try your best.

Overal i'd just HoN as LoL feels very very slow paced and i don't like the fact there isn't denying. Also there are some very fun heroes in HoN.

I used to play HoN and there was quite a lot of elitists, that didn't put me off but I just found it a bit more complex then LoL which is what I'm playing now and having a blast, and as people say I play to Win, I couldn't care if someone kill steals cause its a team game and LoL is deffo noob friendly with the odd person now and then feeding or whining like a bitch cause they get greedy and die by towers or 4 people gank him
