Just purely out of interest. I would only insure a cheap run around car (sole driver). Never had a car before. Passed my test about 1.5 years ago...now 21 years old.

What would the typical insurance cost be?

Really?

Mine was 1400 for first 10 months on a focus 1.8tdci
First car, just passed ne6 postcode fully comp with missus mother as 2nd driver

Not specifically (unless you're trying to insure something a little more interesting which a mainstream insurer may not cover for under 25s).

One of the most significant drivers of the policy cost will be your location. There's no way we can tell you what it may cost to insure a car for your situation unless you give us more data, but it'd be far easier for you to just run a quote yourself!

Don't they do things like credit checks when you get quotes? I don't have a car and don't know what sort of car I should even be looking for to get a quote.

No of course not, it's just a quote. Use comparethemarket.com or similar. You mention a small run around type car so look at things like Fiestas, Clios, etc. Find one on Autotrader for the price you'd be looking at paying and use the reg in the quote.

Depending on your location you will be looking at anything between £500 and £3,000 - you only real way to find out is to do some quotes :)

Unlikely - the biggest risk to the insurer isn't really replacing your 2k car when you stack it, it's the damage you can do by knackering some other guys 60k Porsche. Whether you're fully comp or not the biggest risk is unchanged.
