My 2009 Civic Type S GT has a usb connection in the armrest. I have been using it with a flash drive to play music and it all works fine. I've got a WD Passport USB drive that I'd like to use but I can't get it to work. I've formatted the drive as FAT32 but it comes up as unsupported. Is the drive too big to use with the usb connection? I also tried it as NTFS but that was a no go too. I think it may be something to do with the power that the WD requires, not sure if the usb socket produces enough power to work the drive.

The usb connection won't have enough power to boot up the drive will be the reason it won't work, if you could get power to it it may work.

You can get an 8gb flash drive for about a fiver now, you're better off doing that rather than trying to power a portable HDD imo.

Could be, I'm sure I've read something somewhere about FAT32 sizes being restricted to 32 GB partitions. Either that or I've had a strange dream!

I said that too in THIS THREAD

(I'm Civic_Outcast)

But apparently Microsoft did that deliberately to force people off FAT32 onto NTFS.

There are ways round it.

Doh.. Just noticed you've added your comment on the bottom !!
