In acme's chair.
this motherboard can be had for under £120 which seems odd for a feature packed full atx board which sports pci-e 3.0.

Surely there must be a catch? lifespan? some features missing? reliability?

Should i go with the Extreme3 Gen3 or stick with the P8Z68-V (which is a touch more expensive and has pci-e 2.0 not 3.0)

will pci-e 3.0 really bring that large an improvement over pci-e 2.0? and how long will i have to wait for video cards that are faster than gtx480's that run on pci-e gen 3.0 and cost under £200?

that would be a long time i imagine... and then those cards would be backwards compatible anyway... im stuck.

I have never seen a extreme4 gen3 for as little.

its the extreme3 gen3 that i could get for under £120, the extreme4 gen3 i can only see for £150 to £170, and at trusted eTailers such as ocuk, once you add postage its closer to the £165 - £170 range.

everybody is telling me to get the extreme4 gen3..

if i wanted to know about the extreme4 i would have asked about it :p

is the extreme>>3<< any good people?

If you can really get it for that price then I suggest you do.

ah yes, sorry i somehow missed that :p

ohh... the prices have gone up to £140 now

out of stock from there... damn... i guess everyone else had the same idea :p

Have seen it for £106, not allowed to say where though obviously. But I'm sure Mr Google could find it lol. Pity Overclockers doesn't stock them.

Its ok, I've ordered an extreme4 gen3 from overclockers.
Obviously I don't qualify for free shipping yet, so it cost £165.

thats the non-gen3 version, the gen3(extreme4 gen3) version is £155 on ocuk.

incase you're confused there's extreme4 and extreme4 gen3, the gen3 has pci-3.0 not sure if there are othere diffferences.

The asrock website says that pci-e 3.0 will not work unless the motherboard is running an IVYBRIDGE cpu...

What a load of ****

A bit late now... :(

yes the pci-e3.0 needs an ivy bridge CPU, the sandy bridge doesn't have the controller for it from what I've read. regardless of motherboard if it supports pci-e3.0 still needs ivy bridge CPU.

Who said anything about OCUK? Despite OCUK's price drop to £154, it is still £10 cheaper at another big e-tailer, tyvm

Could i be right in saying that you could upgrade your CPU to an Ivy bridge processor next year when the prices drop ? so you could benefit from the pcie3? ( i looked at the cpu spoort list for this board and it doesnt state support for Ivy bridge, but then again would they advertise that at the moment?)

I'm also looking at this board, which could be part of my upgrade if i decide to go for it.

Im not sure whether to just wait for the next tech that's rumoured to be arriving in the next few months or just take the plunge with an i5 2500k set up..

bleh...
