Hi guys, need a bit of advice im after a cheap car and im going to be driving these two today.

2007 Ka 1.3

2001 VW Polo 1.4

Id be more inclined to go for the Ka due to it being far newer, but it has some rust around the fuel filler cap, apart from that its in great condition.

Would you ignore the rust and go for the newer car?

Or go for the better condition but older Polo?

Thanks.

The polo is a far better car than the Ka ever will be. If its rusting around the filler -where else is is going (arches, boot, sills???).

If you decided to buy it then make the garage fix it as part of the deal first. Personally I think there are better examples of both out there but if those are your choices then Polo!!

I'm sure many motors people will now come in and suggest a mondeo or focus because they are bigger and better!

k cheers chaps.

Yea why would it be rusting after a few yrs is what I thought

I'l either try to knock it down, failing that look elsewhere, maybe a private sale.

A quick search in your area (based on the postcode of the garage you are going to) reveals masses of cars under £3K less than 10 years old and sub 80K on the clock.

Polo's are abundant at sub £2K mark for the same as you are looking at. Ka's are the same with many of same age/mileage sub £150-=£1600 without rust!

Alternatives include things like a Skoda Fabia - just like the polo but without paying for the name!

I would shop around a bit more first, should be able to save yourself about a grand for something like the two you posted. Or, you could get something a bit more substantial for the money. As the others said, what suits best is more about the nature of the driving than the engine size when it comes to economy, you'd be ok with something small for a 5 mile drive to work through town, but if you needed to do some 70mph sections everyday it would, possibly, work out better to get something bigger.

ok cheers il keep that in mind.

Just trying to make driving as cheap as possible really.

The last 3yrs of my Clio172 has cost me a small fortune (it seems every month something breaks or needs replacing) 4mile drive to work and town driving at the weekend mainly.

Fed up of spending £245 a year on tax aswell.
