During the last party i Djed at bothe of my Ibiza 12B speakers bass cut out simultaneously. They are still not working. The amplifier is a skytec pro600. I know that the amp or speakers are at fault as I have tried many different music sources (mixer + USB, mixer+ phono, Phono on its own).
Any Suggestions ? please help Wellaman5000

Just Did that , turns out its the speakers. But I dont think they could have blown because the both went at the same time and i didnt hear any distortion , any ideas ?

can u open the speakers up,, check for dodgy speaker connections?? but yet again it would seem very odd both going at the same time

Melted voicecoil by the sounds of it, you can probably smell it near the magnet...

I've not heard of ibiza speakers but steer clear of Skytec stuff - it's cheap and nasty.

Phone up whoever makes the speakers and see if they do a Recone kit. :)

For sure you have blown the woofers. How loud were you playing the music :D!!!! I have SLAMMED some serious amps and speakers in my time and have only blown the more delicate tweeters. I guess if you had old amplification (no voltage protection) with new speakers (expect to be protected by good amps) you may have run into a problem :P

Thanks very much for everyone's help , i have decided that I will buy some replacement woofers from a different company
Eminence and B&C make some pretty nice woofers if you're using PA type speakers, get some with a 4" voicecoil and you'll have to run a lot of power thru them before they melt...

more delicate tweeters.

I can remember looking across and seeing smoke coming off the tweeters of some brand new speakers I used to have :) I blew that pair of speakers in a day and then blew the replacement set a week later so the shop decided to give me a refund and basically told me to shop elsewhere :D

Make sure there isn't some sort of speaker fuse or power limiting bulb in the cabinet before replacing the drivers. It'll be on the terminal panel if there is.

Skytec is indeed very cheap stuff. To add to Eminence and B&C, RCF and Precision Devices also make nice drivers :)

I have bought to KAM drivers that normally fit inside ZP-12s , sound great ! unfortunately I still have 600watt tweeters and 300 watt Subs and the tweeters are a bit louder than they should be (lots of tinnyness) but I sorted this out by turning down the treble on the master output :)

EDIT: cheap dj/pa equipment ... DON'T GO THERE

Cheap PA stuff is pretty useless, Skytec stuff is inefficient and flakey, Behringer make some pretty budget stuff but also some of their stuff is pretty poor. Try to get feedback from current owners before buying.

I very much doubt that there is any tweeter that could take 600W, even expensive 2" comp drivers struggle with over 100W... so make sure you use a limiter, as tweeters are pretty easy to kill if you're not careful. :)
