New mot tickets coming next month!

yep, cutting down on all these pre printed documents. They rolled out laser printers to all MOT stations earlier this year for the switchover. I'm a fan anyway, feeding in 1 page at a time into a dot matrix printer and waiting for it to print added some major time to your day. Shame we still have to put up with dial-up connection to VOSA for each test.

The only use a forged MOT would be is to sell the car, everything else you need an MOT ticket for is computerised. So all buyers should check online first, its free!

The point is people very often don't, and this just makes it a bit easier to get shot of a ropey car.

Makes perfect sense.

With a database, there's little need for half attempted security.

It'll be provided in a car check for an extra bit of money I bet, after a few years people will realise that they need to check.

but the police will pull you even with a forged one so a forge is worth nothing

Think you missed his point, and other posts in this thread.

It's more to do with people selling cars with no mot and forged cert,

Yes I know there is a easy way to check but a lot of people barely do HPI checks never mind checking a cert they think is real.

Every used car dealer I have ever come across always seem to lose the advisory page.

Wonder what they will do now, maybe they'll cut the certificate in half. :p

yeah we do mot work for a few different sales places and one of the owners said to me "well you'll have to stop advising things now then"

Basically you no longer need an MOT ticket, even the post office doesn't ask for it now (well last time I went they didn't) They are calling it an MOT recipt now. Shouldn't need to do duplicates anymore now either, and yes possibly they will let you print it off online since it's just blank paper and a bog standard laser printer.
Next year with new mot items I can see the failure rate up at least 50% with the most common one being dust covers, they are almost always split on 4-5 year old + cars.

What will happen to the MOT reminder sticker is on the current cert? Will they go back to the ones pre computerisation?

Well i've not heard anything more about those. You could always just register to have a reminder text to your phone? (info on current MOT tickets) It only costs £1.50, either that or just write the date down on a calander, or set a reminder on your phone?
