I currently have the 1090t but a friend works for amd and can get the bulldozer for me in the next month or so. However, it will not be the retail boxed cpu and so wont come with a heatsinkfan

I would have liked to buy collermaster's v8 as i am a fan of coolermaster's products but it doesnt am3+.

do you recommend any cpu coolers that support both am3 and am3+?

I would like to stick with a grey/black/red colour code

thanks a lot in advance

The AMD3 and 3+ mounting systems are the same as far as iam aware.
Also if you don't get that thing benched and the results posted on here then I will come steal that chip and do it myself :)

Hmmm to stick with that colour scheme your pretty limited in choice but plain black I'd spec this or possibly this would need to check your case for clearance first ofc

Why not go nuts and throw in an akasa venom for contrast? :D

For some reason ocuk dont stock it anymore but a lot of other places do, the Coolermaster V6GT, its AM3+ aswell.

Haha thanks,

I will only be receiving it a couple of days before launch, he plays a very high role in the uk sales and so is allowed to give a small amount of cpus to friends and family.

He suspects the release to be either end of this month or start of next month, dont take the word as it is a rumor around amd employees.

I have a cm922 with a crosshair v formula, 6970, 1090t, 2x4gb crosshair vengeance 1600 and a cm silent pro gold 1000w. Yes when i recieve the cpu, i will benchmark it for you =P

Thanks guys, i will have a look at some of these coolers.
Im not a watercooling guy yet.

+1 for the venemous x black, with a black apache, only 'cos I want to see that cooler with bulldozer as an upgrade to 1055T and TRUE.

How about me you and him become friends, i live down the road from you, cmon it makes sense :p

Yeah if your not into water cooling stick with one of the 2 coolers i linked as they will go with your colour scheme, maybe even chrome a fin or 2 for bling ><

thanks, i am considering either the Thermalright Venomous X Black Edition or the CM V6GT. Any favourites?

dont give the haf 922 any stick, i love it and i bought it for the reason of it being a very long, wide, beautiful case. it just isnt very tall. the interior is technically bigger than the haf 932 and just under that of a haf x (haf 922 is still longer and wider than the haf x) - most people over look the case as it is registered as a mid tower.

the only problem i have with choosing a big cpu cooler is..
will it fit in my huge motherboard (asus crosshair v formula) if i have 2x4gb crosshair vengeance?
they have huge heat sinks but the ram is placed on the brighter coloured slots, so the closest stick of ram to the cpu cooler will be one slot away.

i think both of the cpu coolers will fit, i just need a second opinion.

thanks advance.

@seandog
i live in moira, so you do really just live down the road =P

just looked at that website you have in your signature helios

Phanteks PH-TC14PE was only released last week, looks imense and has great reviews.
i think i might wait another week, wait for more reviews and then consider it?

What memory modules do you use? The main problem with the Phanteks is that the heatsink itself might overhang the memory slots whereas the likes of the Noctua NH-D14/Thermalright Silver Arrow only overhand the first adjacent slot which in most cases won't be populated anyway. Take a look at this:

If your memory modules are low profile, I'd still opt for the much cheaper Silver Arrow which is only 1c or so behind and is quieter. Otherwise, if you have tall memory modules, the VX is the best you can get and really not that far off those larger coolers. Get a couple of Thermalright's TY TR-140s and you won't look back!

Thankyou helios, that is exactly the answer i was looking for. I appreciate it.

I am using 2x4gb crosshair vengeance which have very very tall heat spreaders. They are placed in slots 2 and four. There is a total of four slots on my crosshair v formula and slot one and three are empty (slot1 is closest the cpu).

I guessed phanteks heatsink would hang over slot 2. So, I think i will play it safe and go with the vx. A degree or so shouldnt realy make that much of a difference and since it looks good, i dont mind.

I will let you know how i got on.

Thanks again,
Aaron

If you have a choice of which BD chip your friend can get you, try and get a 95W one if your board supports it. the lower wattage will mean you can OC it and the heat output wont be as high so that would negate the need for the most powerful coolers.

Id also just wait til you get teh chip before installing your new cooler, no point in stripping and building needlessly when your gonna do it anyways, especially if temps arent an issue atm
