12 Seater Minibus question.

Evening Guys

Don't know if any of you knowledgable fellas can answer this question for me?

I've currently got a 12 Seater minibus in my stock, it's registered taxation class is PLG.

However on the V5 is listed as a 9 Seater, are there any taxation class implication or vehicle class implications if I change this vehicle to a 12 seated which is what it really is?

I think anything with over 9 PASSENGER seats (so 10 seats with the driver) is then classed as a minibus, in regards to your second question I don't know.

over 9 seats is pcv yes, im guessing its a vivaro or similar converted hence is being PLG?
also if its newer than june 07 (i think) it has to have a tacho to be used commercially.

No it's an 04 vehicle, and to be used privately.

If you turn it back into 12 seats, it's much harder for anyone with a driving licence issued post 1997 to drive it.

Very much so.

Also, afaik, you will have to have a tachograph fitted.

When I looked into getting a mini bus (12 seater) I was told I could drive it on my licence as long as the passengers were not paying a fare. If I charged any of the passengers a fare then I would need a PCV and yes past my test 25 years ago now.

^^ ristac is correct can drive upto 16 seats without pcv for non profit.

Correct but post 97 license holders need to make sure the MAM is 3.5 tons or under which is very unlikely on a 16 seater minibus.

Indeed. Which also tips it into tachograph territory.

I went to the local DVLA office today, and they told me to leave it registered as a 9 Seater if it's to be used privately despite the vehicle having 12 seats.

They told me the vehicle would require a tacho if it's registered after 2007 and reg'd a 12 Seater.

My 17 seat lwb transits weigh 2730kg empty, so add in 16 ppls at 80kg each (googled avg weight) is 1280kg plus 25kg suitcase each means fully loaded i weigh almost 4.5 tonnes plus trailer if i take it

I have a 9 seat vivaro too, this only weighs 1.6t unladen so im guessing the op has something along these lines being 12seat converted?.
