How am I supposed to get a part time job at a retail store, when they all require experience and as soon as you have no experience in retail they say no.

Where else am I supposed to start?

Am I doing something wrong?

Yes. Otherwise no one would be able to get a job in retail. :/

Dress smart. Do up your CV. Speak to the manager if possible and really sell yourself. Apply to smaller stores...

Lol, as bad as that sounds it will actually work.

I know someone who needed a loads of qualifications to get a job. He lied, hes now on 40+ a year.

Keep looking, be persistent but remain polite and enthusiastic at all times. Speak to the right people preferably the store manager. When you ask for a job remember that you're selling yourself for a job that involves selling things. Don't forget to smile.

Lie. I ended up assistant store manager for a certain greeting card company, in their flagship branch, at 19. Talk about over my head, I had people in their 40s under me. Lasted 11 months and quit for a better job, not because the job was hard, retail is ****

Keep looking.

By the way, cheesecake does have cheese in it.

I know it does, it is a quote from the guy who asked if rice krispies was made from rice. :D

Also, I wanted to apply to a retail store locally it was specified as a weekend job so not exatcly huge amount of hours.

Tried a few retail stores, no luck, all want experience, might just try local corner shop/newsagents.

Interesting, going instore and asking to talk to the manager, might try that, seems a bit far fetched though.

Just turn up one day and start working. If anyone questions you, explain that you're the new guy who transferred from another branch. With some hard work and a good slice of luck you work through the ranks, starting as a shelf stacker then becoming a Department Manager. Store Manager then Regional Manager roles are yours over the next 10 years and - after a hard fought battle with 3 other serious contenders - you are finally rewarded with an offer of a seat on the Board.

You turn this down and sack yourself because you had no genuine experience.

INCEPTION.

Not all retail stores require experience. The place i work for just took on someone with nothing as a new weekend staff member, and I had nothing when I started.

Took me four months to get a new job, WITH experience. Don't beat yourself up about it, it's just not a lot of companies are hiring and a lot of people are looking for work. It's like throwing a piece of bread at loads of ducks.

If you have no experience then a charity shop is a very good suggestion whilst you look.

It makes you look like your eager to work. It's always easier to find a job when you have a job (even if it is a volunteer job).
