Uni people - Desktop or laptop?

Sell PC and buy laptop, keyboard, mouse, and monitor, boom, job done.

But yes, no laptop works fine as well I guess but I don't think I'd manage without having a laptop to take into uni for doing work in the library etc.

I would often find it more helpful to sit at my desktop computer when I had the time, trying to wright assignments on a laptop on the bus or even at uni wasnt never really my thing I needed to be able to concentrate on what I was doing.

Having a laptop with a decent size screen brings you way more benefits than just something to write assignments on in your room.

if you're travelling too and from home a lot then a laptop can be really handy. Don't get a netbook! Also, if you game a lot, get a laptop so you can't ;)

Oh and use dropbox for saving your uni work into. Great for backup, version control and availability of your work from any computer.

to be honest there is very little need for a laptop at uni. taking them into lectures is good in theory, but in practice they are a major distraction. working in the library shouldnt be a problem as theres usually plenty of computers sitting around unoccupied.

Except when you want to pull an all nighter.

Studied uni 1998-2002 and stuck with a desktop. The problem with a laptop when taking notes is that you'd need to have Charmap running all the time then spend ages looking for the correct Greek symbol (depending on degree course ofc). For Electronic Engineering, there were a hellova load of non-standard symbols and it was faster to just stick with an A4 pad :-)

You build computers? Awful spelling.

To the OP, I would recommend getting a laptop because when you really need to move around you'll be able to...projects at mate's houses etc. You'd be fine with a desktop but for the rare occasions it's quite helpful. Not for lectures tho.

If you have any interest in PC hardware at all (including gaming), get a desktop.
Laptops are for good for international students imo and that is about it.
Mr average public will say laptop, but from someone who has a keen interest in PC stuff, desktop everytime.
No degree requires a laptop at all.

Why would it even be necessary? All you need is a pen and paper. The majority of people I saw with laptops in lectures were just browsing the internet anyway, and taking up far too much room on the desks.

You will never need a laptop for lectures.
I have no idea why people take them if all they intend to do is use the internet etc in lectures - Why even bother showing up to the lecture!
