Ermm how am I supposed to get a job???

Btw my reply was serious, I got a job at my local football stadium in hospitality.

They kept all the good looking girls and competent staff, and sent the incompetent and fug-ugly down to work on the kiosks. No experienced required at all, the hardest question I got asked in my "interview" was " what would you do if a customer made a complaint" to which I replied "take him to my supervisor" hardest interview I've ever had....
On the other hand hospitality is generally harder work than retail, and not as well paid. Though if you are friendly and competent (more than what can be said for most teenagers) you get tips which make up for it, and the high turnover means sticking around gives you a good chance of promotion.

Much better than shelf stacking

Ok, had a look on jobsite for local hospitality jobs, most of them are chef jobs, but will definately keep an eye out for hospitality jobs, didn't think about this area before.

Fibbage... I think it comes the time we should all be honest with you.

To get yourself on the ladder, the best method is to stroke his leg and start undoing his trousers and a job will follow. We've all had to do it once... I assure you...

Make the first step and a job will follow, I promise.

:p

What if its a she ;)

How am I supposed to get a part time job at a retail store, when they all require experience and as soon as you have no experience in retail they say no.

Erm keep looking - they obviously don't all require experience everyone had to start somewhere. Some places might not be hiring at the moment perhaps- find out when they?

How have you been applying - just e-mailing CVs or phoning or going in in person? Maybe ask someone in store when you're in there - how did they start etc.. how often people leave/get hired?

I had the same problem looking for a part time job when I was 16. Retail was a no go without experience. TBF at that age I wasn't the most proactive person and got disheartened when I didn't even hear back from a few. In the end I took my pool lifeguard qualification and work at my local pool, pay was better than retail and I could do all the hours I wanted in the holidays.

This is a good idea tbh...

I did waiting/bar work when I was 16-18... one of my friends had trained as a lifeguard, aside from a few incidents in the changing room (yes ****** leave nappies behind etc...) a lot of their shifts were fairly stress free.

I've been to my local supermarket and asked them in store, the rest I've either phoned up or checked the online vacancies section and then applied from there.

I've tried my 2 local supermarkets, well one is a 40 minute walk but yeh they don't have any jobs :(

 40 minutes is nothing. You have to be prepared to commute to your job. By all means keep looking for one closer to home but beggars can't be choosers.

look at different places than retail, couldn't think of anything worse than having to detail with the retarted public all day every day.

KaHn

This. lol it's true

My first job was at Sainsbury's and I started on £3.36 per hour (albeit tax fre). You never appreciate just how dumb some people can be until you have to deal with the retarded public.

I was not much past 16 and obviously had no experience either. I was however uber polite and concise with answers, thus selling myself well.

Good luck and keep trying!

Please only go into retail if you are customer service orientated, i for one have noticed a decline in all aspects of customer service recently and believe this to be due to people who would never normally work in customer service and/or do not care enough about other people to be good at serrving customers taking these types of jobs because of the employment situation at the moment.

To be honest your coming up to the perfect time of year to get experience!!

Many shops will be taking on christmas staff and dont require experience as after christmas if they dont like you, they wont keep you on but it gets you a little experience.

My first job was at toys r us when I was 16, I didnt get kept on but went back the a couple of years later as I needed money and again and then went into bar work followed by working at argos and now Im working in a bowling centre.

If there is an argos near you I would recommend trying to work for them. They take on for christmas normally. When I worked there it was really good but then again this also comes down to management and staff members. Also if you work on a sunday its £9 per hour :D

Meh, lie :).

On a slightly related note, I was looking earlier today for a part-time job to go along side my current one. I kid you not, there's a vacancy for a "Sandwich Artist"...
After reading the job description, it was making sandwiches in Subway.

Sandwich Artist...really?

Really?

....

*grumble*

No offence, if this is genuine I am chuffed but this sounds too good to be true.

Please don't scam me lol.

lol, its not a scam matey.

I run chat teams for 4 UK gambling sites, 2 are very large and the other 2 are smaller. We're also launching another site soon for a glossy magazine.

We pay people to host the rooms, enforce sites rules, entertain members and advertise our promotions.

We have hosts working from the office and from home.

We are based in Stoke, which you would need to visit for an interview (well newcastle under lyme) but if its a home position you would simply log in and chat.

I can't guarantee you a position, that's not down to me, but I can pass your CV on.

I think the only requirement is over 18 due to the gambling side of things, but I am not too sure on that.
