This is a long shot but I'm trying to find the name of a song I heard a few days ago in a cafe. At the time I was trying to use Soundhound but there was too much background noise.

The beat goes like this:

daa daa, da, da, da, daa daa, da, da da, daa daa, da da, da

Male singer, very much a crooning tone, slow. My first thought was Damien Rice or David Gray. The beat is pretty much constant throughout the song with the words sung at each beat.

I'm sure I remember a site on the internet where you could hum a tune into your microphone and it would come up with suggestions

Whenever I hear a song I like I make sure that I remember at least one sentence of the lyrics. There is literally not a song in the world that cannot be found by typing a line of it into google.

I should edit the beat to something more like:

daa daa, daaaaa, daaaaa, daaaaa,daa,daa,daaaaa,daaaaa,daaaaa

The short da's should have been much longer and slower. It's really mellow, almost acoustic.

What kind of radio station did you hear it on? Was it one that only played 'chart' stuff? Or was it one that played anything?

I found it!

David Gray "This Years Love"

OK... For future reference the way to describe this song is 'wavery male voice singing with just a piano.'

My new failsafe method for finding out song names that rarely fails is to pick the first four or five words of two lines or a verse or the chorus and Google it.

So for this song, I'd do 'turning circles cut like a knife lyrics' - which leads me to said David Gray song.

I normally would google a line of it but for the life of me I could only remember the beat.
