maybe ¬_¬

I've not played it long enough to decide fully yet if I like it or not but so far it is just "ok" but I feel from the 45 mins I have played so far that it appears as though the game[play will repeat itself numerous times and so far has consisted of:

> Acquire an objective from person XYZ as it gains you XP!
> Either accept or decline the "mission".
> Some missions cannot be declined because they progress the game even though you can decline them but the NPC just says "WAAAAAAAA YOU CANNOT DECLINE"
> Collect item from object while bashing zombies about a bit.
> Loot every mother******* luggage you see because they all contain money.
> Visit workbenches to repair and upgrade your weapons (ala Dead Space).
> Run back to the objective giver to progress.
> Gain XP, LEVEL THE **** UP!

The game world is not really that interactive, you cannot flush toilets, use sinks or turn the TV on/off and neither can you smash props to bits. It would have been nice to be able to smash a tree stump and watch the tree fall on a zombie or bust through a fence to get to an objective.

The graphics are really good though as is the performance. Some mouse sensitivity issues on mouse look but otherwise quite fine and works flawlessly with an XBOX360 wireless pad too.

QUESTION 2 - Have you ever played Left 4 dead 2?, how would you compare this game to that interms of replayability?

Reply
Left 4 dead 1 was better, I prefered that

CHEERS BUD, going to bed now.. thankyou for answering my questions have a good game! :D :D

I watched that stream last nite too and remember those questions, good questions.

mrk, is it quite atmospheric?

I'm not far enough to see if it gets to nighttime but all the daytime vistas are really nice and have atmosphere from sounds to haze to bits of debris and wind all over the place. The water effects are nice too and the lack of in-game FSAA options doesn't really cause a distraction because the use of post processing sort of hides them behind everything.

Some shadows do appear a bit blocky but imagine Crysis shadows on high, that's about the same kind of quality they have in look and realtime movement. Foliage detail is very good, plants and leaves have more detail than other games with foliage (Crysis/2) out of the box.

One thing I felt was a bit weak was the fire, it just sort of appears in one go when you throw a molotov, it's not a gradual explosion and expansion of flames like on other games, you throw the molotov and suddenly there's fire. Going to try Co-Op tonight/tomorrow night.

My Bro being the zombie nut he is picked this up on steam so I gave it a blast.

There is no vysnc option, had to enable it through the nvidia control panel as 200+ FPS really heats the card up, the bloom and FOV is way overdone as is the norm for most console oriented titles on PC these days and there is noway to disable them in game. There is hardly any interaction with objects in game, it's all very simple with very limited attack moves and repetitive gameplay even in co-op, think poor mans L4D which I would much rather play. Can see players being bored of this is no time at all.

The bizarre thing is if you play with the xbox pad you can enable the analogue combat system which gives you multiple attack methods by using the left stick to direct and the right stick to attack.

With KB and mouse you are stuck with digital only so only left/right swing. They could have had the same combat on KB/Mouse too if they allowed you to hold a KB button then swing the mouse in whatever direction to attack effectively making the KB the left stick and mouse the right stick.

Give it more of a blast and play with friends

That is seriously off putting, further proof this is a port?

Surely it could be just because it's the dev build?

I'm updated to patch 1 and while the dev build stuff is now gone the control system remains the same so perhaps this is how it is in the retail game.

That's a fair one mate, what about the auto lock on, is that still in there? I might bang in the xbox controller and see if it's better than M&K.

Auto lock seems to work fine, no issues to note there I guess.

Isn't playing this in single player as pointless as L4D in single player?

So far this is more enjoyable as a single player game than Left4Dead due to the game world and objective/game style (the RPG elements) so you don't get the same bored/bland feeling playing SP as you do with L4D.

I'd even go as far to say that it's Dead Space but not in space and features female NPCs in bikinis :p

You can manually set AF/AA

Video.scr in %userprofile%\Documents\DeadIsland\out\Settings

Adjust as needed in a text editor, save, change file to read only (Or game re-writes it)

Sorted.
