Just moved into my house for my 2nd year at uni, the house was great when we looked round and it was going to be totally refurbished before we move in, all new built in furniture etc,

so i get my keys yesterday and my desk looks like this...

so as u can sort of see, no holes in the 'desk' for cable management

no plugs under the desk

not a big desk

i have a dell u2211h 21,5 monitor and wanted to build a desktop in a FD arc mini case but im not sure this will fit on the desk and i dont really want to put anything under the desk due to no cable holes

really really annoyed right now as i have a pretty big amplifier and 2 decently large speakers aswell and theres just no room for anything

now the other side of the room looks like this...

I am currently tempted to move the bedside table under the 'desk' and push the end against other wall, but the drawers infront of the 'desk' and see if i can freecycle/pick up a cheap rectangle desk to put where the bed is now

either that or build a shuttle PC and just be mad for the next year!

Ha, typical student landlord!

That sharp corner of the desk looks nasty...

I'd just put a hole in the desk and the case on the floor, not a massive desk no but should be big enough

I'd be more mad at the hideous choice of carpet and wall colour combination!

yes ive already cought my hip on it once within a few hours <.<

ORRR ring the landlord and ask if you/they can put a hole in the back of the desk for cables etc? I'm sure they wouldn't have a problem with it.

This, just make it neat, choose possibly the corner thats least likely to have been photographed, (one opposite the window) and i doubt anyone will care.

haha you're at uni and you're moaning about a desk

you're doing it wrong.jpg

Ha, my tenancy started on the first of september technically and the house isn't even ready yet. Again a complete re-furb. Should be awesome when its done, but its a lot of work considering it used to be a marijuana den

mines the same, its not finished yet either, as u can see no curtains

also no fridge

Wow, that place looks awesome compared to my student digs for 2 years which was a house of 5 of us. two of my walls were damp and the shelves would regularly fall out the wall.

there was a hole where the pipes were routed from my room (ground floor) straight up to one of the room upstairs so I could reqularly hear the bedroom antics of my housemate and his boyfriend.

still was only £35pw with no summer rent back then

mannn up tbh

so, off the phone to my landlord

'would it be alright to make a hole in the corner of the desk for cables and such?'

no i wouldn't really be happy with that it should be fine as it is

'well its just that theres wires all over the place at the moment'

yes but future tenants might have no need for the desk other than writing so it'd be of a great inconvenience to them!

Buy some blu tak.

Stick a load over the desk corner. Job done, no more hip ouchies.

The desk looks bad for anything needing wires though, My student houses simply had normal cheapo desks and chairs that worked fine.

Well tell him to come and get someone to remove the dangerous exposed corner from the desk at the very least. You could trip on a cable that isn't tidy behind the desk and take an eye out.

Is your landlord pure stupid or something?

Students actually 'writing'? WHAT?

They do all their work on the computer these days.

The cable solution is simples! Use some white trunking and route the cables round the edge.
