My new house, GRR

Are there loads of yorkshiremen in this thread? "Back in my day we were happy if there was a desk between the 30 of us living in a 2 bedroom flat"

Two bedrooms! Luxury! In my day there were forty of us, and we only had one room which we ate, studied and slept in. And there wasn't enough floor space so we had to take turns sleeping!

Ha, typical student landlord!

Which is pretty lucractive!

Buy an old run down house, convert as many of the rooms into box rooms, pack the students in like sardines and you have a rental income greater than the market rental value of the property for a normal 2+2 family.

I was annoyed as you were when I moved into my first student house. I don't understand why we are treated worse than everyone else simply because we are students. My house, when I left it, was in a better condition and substantially cleaner than when I moved in. We aren't all knobs. My landlord, however, was a douchebag. He had 17 convictions and had been on Watchdog...we only found out after we signed up with the place though unfortunately. Having said that, they never bothered us which was nice.

This was my little crack den back in 2003 :p

PS: That APC UPS (with a new battery, mind) and huge EATX case are still going strong today :p

anyway thanks to the people giving serious answers altho some of u are right i definately overreacted a bit, it'll be fine mostly just a combo of having no curtains = lack of sleep and no fridge = bad diet for now!

OP, Landlord doesnt give a **** about the house.

Drill a hole through the desk and move on with your life and worry about things that actually need to be worried about.

Are you seriously complaining about it because your stuff won't fit and look tidy on it....REALLY?!

Yeha ill just do it, shrug.

might try do it in the other 3 rooms so he probs think it was done on purpose.

what shud i use to cut the hole evenly though?

I wouldn't vandalize someone else's room or a communal room as you will all get charged for it.

This is what uni is about. Learning how to live!

Get yourself a cheap curtain pole and some curtains off Ebay.

Presumably the lack of a fridge/freezer will be a problem for everyone living there, so why not throw £50 each into the pot and get yourselves a nice new one from the nearest superstore? Alternatively, get a second hand one off Ebay.

You were lucky, when i was a student there were 342 of us living in a hole in middle of the road and we had a matchbox as a desk. :D

Landlord was a nice bloke though as he let us cut a hole in the corner of the matchbox so we could feed cables through it.

I hope you guys are paying absolute peanuts for these rooms!

I managed a double bed and full sized desk in two out of my three student rooms, and so did a few other of my house mates.

in my old place whenever you open ed the draws in the "desk" the front came off and the drawer stayed in leaving you holding a plank with a handle and some screws sticking out.
