First car - MX5 Eunos - Thoughts?

Did someone say pictures?!

After all the dissing I've decided to call the old boy Louie, after Louie Spence:

Sorry for the delay getting the pictures up but was having too much fun driving it ;)

First couple of "mods" are going to be:
Replace the front grill - It's just a dirty wire mesh that the previous owner has tried to clean up in the past with no luck. Do going to get a nice wee shiny replacement.
Replace the number plates - Purely a cosmetic thing but when my dad did this to his car last year it was night and day! Both plates have split and have gunk in them.
Replace foot pedals - Something really just for me and can get aluminium ones for quite cheap.
Replace long, solid aerial with "stubby" black one - I think it looks better
Replace dashboard dials - Again this is something just for me. For some reason I love and hate cars just because of the dials. Found some nice "white during the day" and "red and blue at night" ones.
Get matching rear tyre

That's first couple of month things to change.

Plan on getting a set of summer tyres on new alloys come the summer next year. Hopefully I'll manage to keep the changes to a minimum and not put my self in debt! :D

Looks nice, although MX5s always remind me of that Ampibious version someone built :o

So now they all look like boats to me!

good stuff - now sell the hard top and buy a hat - the only reason you should have the top up is if its raining. The hard top is only useful if hail stones the size of footballs are ripping through the soft-top (or you've got a leak)

Also start checking the drainage holes, they might be fine now but too much gunk down them and you'll be getting random rust :(

Just bought my car!

Ended up with:

Silver MX-5 Mk2 2000
48K on the clock (timing belt changed last year with receipt)
Body coloured hard top with heated rear window
Black vinyl soft top with heated rear window (split in roof that's been repaired)
Electric windows
Rear parking sensors
Engine sounds amazing
Service manual for every year bar two where it was only driven 1000 miles
MOTed until Sept 2012
TAX just renewed
Serviced last week and got new front callipers and pads as well as oil changed etc (guy still has to pay the £360 bill!)

Best bit is from what I can see (and been told) absolutely no rust! Had the sills replaced 2 years ago as well!

Was down for £2K. Tried to haggle a bit but ultimately it's a cracking deal. Factor in the service charge from a fortnight ago and I didn't really have much wiggle room.

Regardless I'm chuffed!

/me joins MX-5 OC!

Sounds brill, good price too. Sell the hard top and it's a £1500 bargain!

Which engine is it? Are the parking sensors factory fit? Can't say I've ever noticed them on an MX-5.

Hehe, I want to keep the hard top because it will be kept outside all year (no garage) and will be warmer during the colder months as it's my only car.

I was specifically going to buy a hard top if I couldn't find one with it so I'll be keeping it for now :)

Oh, it's a 1.8! Missed that vital stat! Parking sensors I'm told were factory fit yeah.

Any good pointers to threads with step by step pictures on drain maintenance?

Top down in the winter is underrated, I like the crisp cold air :).

agreed - there's nothing like driving around sideways in the snow with the top down :D Just be careful to warm up the soft top before dropping it or it'll split :(

Literally the only time I used my hard top was when the soft top started leaking a little, you also have to be very careful about how you store them as they can (and do) warp, making them totally useless :(

Hehe, that does sounds like fun :)

Yeah, got my eye on a hardtop bag with hanging hooks and cheers for the warming up advice!

Buying one during the winter may be cheaper, and also if it's raining you can easily check for leaks before handing over the cash...:)

Oh, I didn't mean the weather. It was more the needing a car with more than 2 seats and a small boot that stopped me. Shame, as they were very nice to drive.
