I had a 1984 Mongoose Supergoose, I loved that bike.
My parents ended up selling in for £50 in 1995 :(
I used to race it when we lived in Yorkshire, was my dream bike, I loved the look of the pro class 2 wheels it came with.
I wonder what it would be worth now ?

used to do a lot of bmxing do frames up cranks etc

can still pick up bikes if you look on boot sales andstuff and have a word at local tip to save any bikes (what i used to do ;))

some stuff fetches decent money.

Never had a BMX when I was a kid :(, did have a raleigh chopper at one point though :D. I was a bit jealous of the kids that had awesome BMX bikes though

Choppers were the dogs nuts.

Big rear wheel, small front one and three gears with a gear shift lever. Aside from oxygen, what more can a youth desire ?

First BMX was a silver burner.

Added vector pedals, mushroom grips, front and rear pegs, two finger brakes, diy lean back seat post courtesy of the ford motor company, and number plate courtesy of smiths crisps. Sadly it was nicked within about a month of aforementioned mods.
Dad took me out one day to pick up a second hand one and managed to pick up a rebel.

I had no idea when we picked it up it was going to be the envy of the street. The rebel came along just as the council were resurfacing the roads where we lived and very kindly left a large mound of chippings in the road for myself and my fellow nippers to enjoy. Happy days indeed :)

£500-£1k depending on condition and original parts id guess

I had a chrome framed Saxon Raider. My dad robbed it from a skip needing new brake cables and tyres. It had anodised red (well, more like pink by that time) metal pedals, brakes, and brake levers. The grips and seat were red plastic, the bollock protector crashpad was red and the tyres were red (although at one point it had black and blue tyres, red ones weren't always available and I went through rear tyres like nobody's business)

I used it constantly for years, always put it away in the cellar and never left it outside. Had a huge off when I was probably 14 or so, racing round the playground in my local park and got pushed wide, hit a park bench that was bolted to the floor. I yanked my leg out of the way just in time and the pedal hit the bench at full whack, I went sailing through the air and escaped any real injuries but it bent the crank badly and it never felt the same to ride after that so I switched to a mountain bike.

A couple of years later my mate persuaded me to sell it to him. He replaced the crank, pedals, grips and saddle, replaced the rusted bars, removed the brakes completely and polished up the chrome. He rode it like that for about six months until he had a big accident coming down the steepest hill on one of the backlanes around our village. He tried to take a sharp bend at what must have been somewhere around 35mph, skimmed the metal pedal on the floor, it dug in, flicked the bike in the air and threw him down the road. The bike hurtled off into the trees and I think the only real damage was a buckled wheel, he lost chunks of flesh of his knees/elbows etc and then I rounded the corner and hit him in the face with the handlebar end of my bike and came off myself, how I didn't knock his teeth out is beyond me.

Not sure what he ever did with the old Raider, I'll have to ask him!

I picked this up on Freecycle a while back, but I couldn't get it back in the car when I went camping so I left it in France:

@ brucey.. ones up on ebay :o although this one has skyways, id expect it to 'probably' fetch the same as if it had the pro class wheels

must admit im finding it hard to believe this is a genuine 80's bike untouched with "no refurbs" as the seller says, im thinking it might be a re-coated original frame built up with NOS parts, what you reckon?

I built a performer a couple of years ago. Lovely bike. A little long for me though. It wasn't original though, z-mags and whatever I could get my hands on.

In the past I've owned mainly Haro's (my total fave being a welded up dv-8 MEGATUBE 1111!!), S&M's (2 sabbaths, bloody and black), a pkripper, I snapped a rare early 80's piranha frame once about 6 hours after being offered a large sum of money for it :(. Erm, couple of cheapies, mongooses etc, and then nothing for a long time. For some reason I let my ex mrs have my performer, I didn't rly like it. I really fancy building another S&M sabbath.. Hmmmm

Tempting thread..
