Nope...I don't mean graphic novels, I mean comics...you know the kind that come out once a month, are flimsy, overpriced and seem to be too many to choose from.

I buy and sell a fair few on eBay, buy collections of anything from 50-5000 at a time, split them up and re-sell. Been doing this for about 6 months now and i'm really surprised of the interest that is still there. I used to read and collect comics about 15 years ago then grew out of it. The itch never went away though and i'm back collecting.

The trouble is, I spend too much time buying/listing/packing that I hardly read anything. I want some recommendations of decent superhero stuff to stick with.

I've got stacks of random civil war issues, world war hulk, countdown 52 and other major crossover/big stoyline issues but can't decide where to commit, fill the gaps and read through.

Also my way of thinking is if I get some complete collections together, the re-sell value goes up a little.

Off the top of my head i've always loved Batman through the Knightfall, Contagion, No Mans Lands days, X-Men in the mid 90's, I used to love Punisher but having read some old issues again, it just seems a bit too "light" despite the obvious serious subject matter.

I don't want graphic novel suggestions, I like the hunt to fill in elusive issues to complete a run and then read through once I know it's complete. Just to re-iterate, it's superhero stuff i'd prefer to read right now, i'm up to date with Walking Dead, Morning Glories, The Boys and much of the non-superhero main titles.

Thanks in advance and let the geekdom begin :D

I've got loads of Buffy/Angel/Spike/Fray comics

Sometimes I'm not sure why though, I've got the TPB's if I want to read them I guess I'm just getting them for collection sake, they've never been read (well by me at least)

Just an afterthought, before anyone suggests to go back to Batman, i'm already building up a collection of Batman/Detective/Shadow Of The Bat/Legends Of The Dark Knight and so on from the Death In The Family issues and onward, I figure that if I keep these all minty mint, it'll be a good investment come 35 years down the line when I retire. There is already a strange shortage of Batman related titles from the early 00's to around 3 years ago. I've been to quite a few authentic (non forbidden planet) comic shops and many of the owners told me the same thing, it's hard to find these Batman issues and they are fetching a real premium price.

Some of the older 2000 AD stories are probably worth a few quid. Judge Dredd Necropolis etc, though I doubt as valuable as the marvel/DC stuff

I had to give up comics a couple of years back, damn things are so expensive now! I'm actually sorting through the boxes at the moment working out what to offload to ebay.

Green Lantern is a big hitter at the moment, from Sinestro Corps War through to Blackest Night/Brightest Day. Plus the film should create a lot of interest.

Batman's current run seems to be doing very well for collectors, from the RIP storyline through to the current Return of Bruce Wayne and Batman Inc. Whether they will hold value I'm not sure, but they're certainly tough to find at the moment.

With the major storylines...that's a tough call. Depends how much money and time you have! Infinite Crisis/52/Countdown/Final Crisis should be easy enough to find, but they're not amazing from a resale point - definitely worth reading though. The Marvel crossovers are getting a little ridiculous since Civil War - that came to something crazy like 230 total issues and later crossovers haven't been much better.

Captain America's current run is an excellent read, and the film is only going to drive the popularity. Avengers is probably worth keeping an eye on for the same reason.

I used to collect 2000AD but gave up years ago when my mum decided to throw most of my collection out thinking I didnt want them anymore.
I have a friend who is an avid collector (except for Marvel, DC etc) and I borrow them off him.
Im currently reading Chew, which I highly recommend. However the best comic I have read within the past year has to be American Vampire.

Yeah, I'm pretty big on DC at the moment. Green Lantern, The Flash and Batman are all superb at the moment.

Oh and The Boys. The Boys is quite good too.

200AD are worth nothing these days. Maybe Prog 1 and 2 but that's it. They sell for pennies. I have around 1000 from Prog 70 but they're simply not worth trying to sell.

I have the complete set of Warrior which is what V for Vendetta was originally published in but even they aren't worth much simply because the big collectors buy Yank trash (IMO, obviously).

EDIT: I just looked on Ebay and Warriors sell for £60 for the full set! I think I probably paid more than that in the first place :(

EDIT Again: That £60 is for the "available issues" which isn't all of them! Sneaky auction. It appears issue #1 is quite valuable :)

Crikey! You just reminded me that I have hundreds of old comics from the mid 80's sitting in my mums shed.

I seem to recall having the entire Marvel Superhero's Secret Wars set [was there 2 series? might have both]. And possibly the entire original series of Transformers. Oh, and The Thing too.

Would they be worth anything?

Comics

Hi just wondering if anyone has any idea of the best way for me to shift my comics i have around 1000 to 1500 cataloged on a spread sheet ! i'm moving abroad and would like to sell them on. there are indeed a lot of special additions and rare collectables from late 80's to mid 90's.

Any idea's on whats best to do or where to sell...not looking to rip anyone off just looking for a job lot sale with a fair deal for all.

Z..........

I've a few collections going on now and trying to tip toe around the myriad of comics available trying to scope out cheap ones that might spike in price. I'm notparticularly experienced in investing in comics but I do understand it can make for better investment than precious metals if you get it right!.

At the moment I have a collection of Deadpool, including 1st issue and New Mutants with Deadpool first appearance. I thought they would be good investments considering the upcoming film. I also bought a few others inclusing early spidermans and Guard Mouse.

Anybody else with any tips?

All Image titles are stupidly hot right now, ever since they launched Morning Glories last year.

Red Wing, Shinku, Green Wake, Blue Estate, Butcher Baker...all of these titles are at silly prices for issue #1's.

Even Walking Dead comics that are only a few months old are fetching £5-£8 per issue. I got a Walking Dead #81 in a FP grab bag, so essentially cost me 33p, I just sold it on the bay for over £5.

Image is really where it's at right now, the other option is the rarer variants that DC and Marvel are pushing out, anything that's a 1:25 ratio or above, especially the Batman ones such as Dark Knight, Batman Inc. I've made a profit on every 1:25 or above ratio variant i've bought in the last 12 months.

Yeah Image comics are good, I've been trying to get a Morning Glories 1 for a while now, I did manage to get the wrap around variant for the first issue though. I'd hoped that Locke & Key would get picked up by Fox as that would have inflated the price of those :(

I've been working my way through multiple Marvel titles.

Have done:

Civil War
World War Hulk
Dark Reign

Currently reading through the whole of Runaways as I enjoyed the crossover with the Young Avengers.

Then it's on to Siege, World War Hulks, and generally just keeping up to date with things.

I buy about 2-3 MG #1's a month on eBay, this includes the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th prints and wraparound variants.

If you're quick you can get a good bargain, put it back up on a buy-it-now and normally double your money.

I normally get the MG #1 1:1000 Larrys World variants for about £8-£12, then sell on for anything from £15-£25 dependant on the time of the month, pay day and so forth.
