Hey peeps,

In May 2011 my wife and I were victims of fraud. I had 2 Iphone 4's taken out on my Tmobile account and my wife had 1 IPhone 4 taken out on hers.

We immediately phoned T Mobile and had them cancelled.

We were told it had been referred to the fraud team and would be contacted within 48 hours.

I contacted customer care over a dozen times over the course of a month or so and even threatened to leave. Each time I was promised a call back from the fraud department and told I could not leave unless i wanted to pay off my contract in full.

I went away on holiday in the summer and lost the will to fight this further as each time I called them felt like it sucked a little more life out of me. Seeing as I hadn't lost any money only time and emotion it was a pointless battle.

I was still very annoyed that I didn't know what ID had been provided to allow them to take out three contracts at our address.

At some point recently i decided to throw away all my notes regarding phone calls to T Mobile as they made me feel ill looking at them.

We are very security conscious and shred all paper work and are careful with online website transactions.

I checked my credit rating and there was nothing suspicious going on there. There have also been no transactions to my knowledge on any of our bank accounts or credit cards.

TODAY!! I came home to find two letters from Tesco Mobile. Apparently I have taken out two mobile phone contracts with them.

I contacted them immediately and they have cancelled the lines. They have also apparently transferred this to their fraud department and couldn't give me any useful information at all.

Following my call to Tesco Direct tonight I have re initiated my calls to T Mobile to see if I can find out what happened.

Any advice as I feel sick to my stomach knowing that this could happen again at any time.

If I know what data of ours has been compromised I might be able to do something about it.

Thanks in advance for taking the time to read this and for any feedback.

Cheers

Adam

Change bank account details. I'd like to them try set up a direct debit then.

edit:

Don't mobile phone companies use a credit card check for security? You sure someone doesn't know your credit card details?

Dude, Phone your banks's fraud team, not Tesco's..

My mum had a fraudulent contract from Vodafone. Didn't even speak to Vodafone, one call to Barclays and it was sorted.

The only thing fraudulent you can do with bank details is set up direct debits.

However, that doesn't get you much unless you can get someone to give you an advance i.e. expensive mobile phones.

exactly, if you dont contact your bank, give it a couple of months, you might get the same thing again

edit are you going to contact your bank?

Have you applied for driving licenses of passports recently? A friend of mine had his ID stolen when he changed the driving license address. Someone at the sorting office was opening them, making copies and then sending them on, in the mean time they were using his ID to take out loans etc. He only found out when he decided to move house and needed to remortgaged.

oddly enough i joined experian (the credit rating online company). and checked my credit history back in May and there was nothing suspicious on there at all.

i kept it running for a couple of months then decided it wasn't worth paying for so i cancelled it.

i'm really not sure what is happening

As already advised talk to your bank, they have specialist teams who can help you.

will do in the morning thanks :)

looking for alternative ideas also guys - so please let me know.

unsurprisingly I didn't get my 30 minute call back from T Mobile. I can't stand the thought of calling them again tomorrow!! Any ideas on how to approach them?

In writing (email/letter) to head office, you'll get nowhere with customer services - its not what they are trained for.

Sent mails to the exec office of T-M. If you don't mind saying - did the tesco letters detail the handsets / deals / where they would be shipped to? This sounds like handset interception but it could be different. They can do this over the phone with only a few bits of info unfortunately :(

The tesco letter's were strangely missing any useful info. There were no account numbers or details of phones etc. I was very suspicious at that point and thought it was a scam.

I checked the phone number on the letter with the number on the Tesco mobile website before calling. It was the same so I called.

I went to the bank this morning and cancelled my cards. There isn't much else they can do at this point.

Waiting for T Mobile & Tesco Mobile to call me back.

I will be writing to TMobile Head Office tonight. Does anyone have the contact address and relevant department I should be addressing?

Thanks for all your feedback :)

Adam

This isn't their head office which is in Hatfield but if you send post there it will just be re-directed here anyway.

This is likely to be the same fraud which another forum member had last month. They order handsets in your name and intercept the delivery driver and "pretend" to be rushing home from work when they meet him on the drive and then sign for the handset and run off. You likely have had post intercepted or your details farmed from somewhere else. They usually use a different creditcard rather than yours so while your bank will still help - it's not 100% that you have been compromised.
