Hey all,

Buying a nearly new Jag XF (black) and was wondering if the paint protection things offered by the dealer are any use? Cost about £300 from the dealer, but cant help but think that its just a good wax and sealant?

Any thoughts?

All I ask is that you look on eBay for the same product, they tend to be £30 not £300.

Which XF did you go for? I drove one this week and I was very taken as a replacement for my current car.

Given I got my Honda Insight ES (in excellent condition) from a dealer for less than the Glass average condition part exchange valuation, I could feel the disappointment coming from the salesman as I refused the £400 superguard treatment and equally expensive smart repair insurance. Told him I could get it done at a fraction of the cost.

I figured it was only a year and half old and the chances are the previous owner had already fallen for the sales pitch. They claim it will protect for 3 years. Paint seems easy to keep clean anyway.

Spot on. Of the people I know who have opted for it they also get sucked into the whole "I need to use the right shampoo or the guarantee is invalid" argument.

Just use whatever cleaning and protection regime you are happy with and be safe in the knowledge that you know how it has been applied and that you can top it up when necessary.

You'd be much better off driving it for a year, then using that £300 to get it detailed and looking like new again.

My boss has a 2 year old XF in black. He has never had it treated - it gets valeted every two weeks by the company and looks absolutely stunning.

Beautiful car, I'm looking forward to when they are cheap enough to me to afford one!

Superguard is the stuff they normally sell, which is a distinctively average kit that costs an enormous amount for what it is.

As recommended get it detailed and then just apply polish/wax/sealant to keep it looking it amazing :)
