HSBC sercure key fob

This system, while adds to security, is just a plain annoyance for people who are clued up with E-Security.

I can't stand these devices. I refuse to join a bank which provides such a system which ties you to some ridiculous (straight from the 90s) device which enables you to move your money around.

Anyone have a list of banks that don't have one of these stupid things? Looking to switch from HSBC.

the stupid thing is their phone banking requires the same info as online used to why wouldn't a would be thief just use that?

I understand what it is for but it doesn't change the fact its a pain in the backside.

A) everyone in my house hold is with HSBC so I can't just leave it around as it will get mixed up and then we are all screwed.

B) I like to log into my account when I am out and about, and to be honest, there isn't enough room in my wallet

C) you have to set a password to get into the bloody thing! It makes logging in about 5 times longer, normally i just want to be in and out like a ninja in my account but now I have to set aside a whole afternoon to check my account.

LOL it isnt mate...ive been using my secure key fob for the past couple of mths and i actually prefer it rather than the old way...it was utterly stupid tbh.

I can log in and log out within mins in my hsbc account.

Talk about making a mountain out of a molehill lol

The format of the damn thing is frankly a bit annoying. I initially kept it in my wallet but it's just a bit too bulky. It is inconvenient to lose the ability to quickly logon to check something or pay a bill at lunchtime because I don't have the damn thing on me.

The idea is sound, just the execution is lacking. I already carry an RSA fob around for work which is on my keyring, but this thing is a silly shape for that. I'd far prefer an iPhone app that was a virtual token instead.

How do you prefer It to user name, password and dob. How's the fob make it easier.

As said it's an annoying size. Doesn't fit on letting or wallet.

Who wants to carry this thing around though?

Sounds like a mare, I wouldn't hesitate switching banks for this reason.

A tad dramatic don't you think?

I remember when you had to go into the branch and fill out bits of paper to get things done which took three working days. HSBCs dial up banking (back when we used modems) was a revelation. So the fob thing is a bit more inconvenient than the old system, but it's designed to be more secure.

its annoying because the old version seemed to work fine to me.
HSBC have been using these in asia for ages but their ones are smaller and dont have a pin to generate a log on so they fit on a key ring nicely

Dont let ypur hsbc one go in the dryer or wash for that matter had it for 3 days now cant access me account doh..

thats another reason it annoys me!

If i forget my security number i can reset it over the phone.. what happens when you break or lose your card? you have to wait for a new one to come in the post?

I'd much prefer a phone app that did the same thing.

Its a pita when the wife is using my fob at home when doing the normal banking stuff while I am at work and want to pay money out to credit cards etc :(

I bank with Lloyds TSB and First Direct and neither currently have any hardware to support logging in. First Direct has an iPhone app that I use quite a bit that allows you to check balances and pay people you have already set up as recipients.
