*** Official Dead Island Thread ***

Dead Island will cost me about 130 quid. :( Well I had to buy Win7 retail too. haha. Now I just need to set up bootcamp on my Macbook Pro and I'll have best of both worlds. It has an insanely good gpu for a laptop. Now I'll be able take advantage of it.

Reminds of the time I purchased a GPU to play operation flash point, I was computer noob back then ended up with card does not work on motherboard and operation flash point CD :(
 
Just came off my first go, couple hours playtime with a friend, quite enjoyed it.. There's something about puntin a zombie in the face that has yet to get old. And the poor thing collapsing after a perfect wrench throw to the nuts was funny as hell

Yep, tried various settings. It did make it better, but not enough to be playable for any length of time.

Besides that, I genuinely didn't think much of it. The graphics were odd, overexposed with horrible bloom (which I know you can alter) and the controls seemed slightly weird.

I was maybe expecting a little more like L4D and not an Oblivion-like RPG with all the item collection/inventories, but that's my fault for not reading up enough.
 
Anyone managed to chop a zombies leg off BEFORE it died and watched it crawl? Everytime I try it I end up killing them but I've got no problems chopping their arms off and watch them try to bite me

Haha yeah I try but the early level zombies just seem to die. I'm guessing the more you progress the harder the enemies get and the more tacticful the leg breaking etc becomes

Im on Level 8 with a maxed out crowbar, been going around like Gordon Freeman killing Level 7 and 8 zombies with one hit kills. But I still can't chop their legs off.. I wanna see them crawl towards me then I can headstomp them (I'm not a violent person)

use winrar or just install "total commander" and it lets you navagate inside the file and u just click on what you want to edit and press f3

you need to hexedit a file to disable crc checks though or your game wont boot someone linked an already edited version of the file a few pages back
 
The in game voice chat when doing multiplayer is so annoying, I mean so annoying and crap, I want to use my own comms not the rubbish in game ones.

Was trying to break their legs on the xbox version last night but couldn't, arms were no problem.
 
Check out the dead island MOD thread on the steam forums there is a list of fixes you can do there. A guy created a batch file to automatically change the FOV for you, which is not a virus.

I'ts pretty simple to change some of the game settings but nobody seems to know for sure the implications of playing online with them.

If I changed the value from 82.5 to 80 in the xml file then run the batch file will it still work?

If your seeing stuttering and using a keyboard its a bug:

Enter the Ease of access centre, then click 'Make the Keyboard Easier to use'

Click 'Set Filter Keys'.

Click 'Set up Filter Keys'.

Click 'Turn on Repeat Keys and Slow Keys',and then on 'Set up Repeat Keys and Slow Keys'. Select the option to ignore all repeated keystrokes, and reduce the time option at the top to 0.0 seconds.

Go back.

Ensure that 'Turn on Filter Keys' is ticked at the top and apply. Dead Island now runs smoothly, when you're done, untick the box and apply.
