Well I'm not confident with overclocking as overclockers did mine when I bought it 2 years ago, I play Fifa, COD, WoW, BF series and I can't push it higher at all cores 100 percent load after 40 minutes was at 60 degrees
 
Well you have no better replacement than what you have for that socket. Hex cores are pretty pointless for gaming.

Just run with it and if you feel it is not coping, then time for a new Intel Sandy or wait for AMD BD.

I have a 965 at 3.8 and am happy with that. BF3 is very CPU dependant and the Alpha ran fine for me.
