Ok, Ladies and Gentleman,
I am currently employed by Tata Steel UK as a PC&A apprentice on the Port Talbot site, I've just finished my BTEC National Certificate and got the highest grades in the year, soo pretty chuffed with myself.
Anyway back on topic, my mum recently has decided to move into a new house in the Caerphilly area, which means 90+ miles a day commute. I just informed my boss of the change of address and he offered to transfer me to the LLanwern Site, which is closer but lacks any heavy end I.e Steel making, Coke Making or Blast Furnaces.
Also instead of the 3rd and 4th years completing a HNC like in PT works, the Llanwern apprentices complete a Beng in Electronic and Communications Engineering, completed in Newport university .
Its seems like a win-win situation but I have a shadow of doubt lingering at the back of my mind which I can't seem to budge, its mainly about having no experience in the heavy end of the steelworks and how it might effect future employment chances. The second issue is; will employers take a degree from Newport Uni seriously, when compared to other universities?
Anyway cheers in advanced for the feedback.
