Before I hit Buy: Any reason NOT get this Samsung GSII Contract?

I'm not too big on 24 month contracts. ~£533 for 2 years doesn't seem so bad though. I have a one year contract where I paid 99.99 for the handset and it's £30 a month (400 mins, 1000 texts, 1gb internet) totalling £459.99 and that's considered a good deal (if hot UK deals is anything to go buy).

So £73.01 for an extra year. How does that sound? I think that's pretty good.

That does look tempting given it's twice as much data and im free to try and get a better deal a year later.

Thanks chaps.

But for the second year you don't get a second free phone, which depending on the phone could mean you lose money.

EDIT: Yep when you add a phone price of £400 into it you're down by around £13 for the 24 month contract... Obviously thats pretty much not worth it either way and totally depends on what phone you get each time and whether you want a new phone each year (can sell to offset the cost etc.).

If the contract is 12 months am i not free to then start a new contract elsewhere which may or may not include a free phone, or at least a cheap(ish) phone such as £99 for a GSII?

I'm actually not that heavy a user of minutes and texts so the contract would be more like a payment plan for the phone really. It's mainly the phone and the data usage thats important.

If i got this 12mth contract and then when on to a sim only contract after that it might make more financial sense.

But as i say, i dont really know what im talking about.

That's what I was thinking. £73 for an entire year's worth of contract is less than a tenner a month. That's surely quite good?

I was thinking that after the 12mth contract i would start using Giffgaff. £10 for one month of 250 minutes unlimited texts and unlimited data. Sounds pretty good.

I think you both missed my point. assuming £400 for a new phone then two 12 month ontracts would be £13 cheaper than that one 24 month contract if the phone prices are included (so in essence Goose is arguing with me).

Yes it's only £73 extra but you only get one phone in that time rather than the two you would get with two 12 month contracts (on of which you could sell to get money back). It would all depend on whether you sold the phone (and how much for) and what sort of deal you got on the second 12 month contract though (and of course things like quidco, which may be in favour of two contracts rather than one).

I'm like you Goose, I'm on contract mainly because I like top of the range phones. I find it usually cheaper to get a contract than to buy the phone outright and pay for sim only. That's one of the reasons I would never go onto a 2 year contract (alongside the fact I don't know what my circumstances will be in a year let alone 2!)

I've only ever had budget mobiles and really fancy something top of the range but i simply dont have the cash to buy a £500 phone outright whereas £99 plus monthly payments is doable.

And i certainly agree that being able to re-evaluate the situation at the end of a 12 month contract seems immeasurably better than after 24months when things may have changed a lot and the phone will be worth a lot less on ebay.

£29 for the phone then £21 a month contract with O2 200 Data Bonus + whatever quidco offer.

Is there any compelling argument for me not get this? Should i try haggling with Vodaphone (my current contract) to try and get a better deal on an upgrade?

Im a total Smartphone and Android noob so any advice is welcome.

Thanks

you aren't getting many minutes - I would imagine you will go over an end up spending more.

check out Tesco mobile - my wife got a Samsung galaxy s ii, £50 upfront, £25/pm 700min, unlimited text and500mb data.

I dont really need many minutes to be honest. I value 1gb data instead of 500mb than minutes and text.
