If you had roughly £50 to spend what would you go for? I've been using some Time branded speakers that came with a Pentium II for maybe the last decade but I think it's time to upgrade :p

ps. I'm using the onboard realtek on a asus p8p67 pro.

Hi,

To throw my point of view into the conversation, I own the Creative T20's and the most I have got out of them was using them as a headphone jack for my PS3 headphones (as the tv jack is terrible).

I have just ordered the Corsair SP 2200 to replace the T20's because I find the Creative speakers cloudy and unfocused for sound delivery.

When I get my Corsair speakers I will be selling my T20's ASAP.

Hope that helps.

I would also recommend that you get the Asus Xonar DG at less then 20 pounds it is a giveaway and I have fitted in my wifes PC. It will work great with those speakers.

Thanks for the input guys :). I've seen some great reviews for the corsair and some that aren't as glowing but for the money they seem to do the job for gaming. Supposedly it's not not too hot with music and movies.

I ended up purchasing the corsairs and received them this morning. I've only been testing them for the last 2 hours or so on a couple things and here are my quick thoughts:

- Bad Company 2, sounds a bit meh. Everything sounds somewhat hollow and weak
- Deus Ex: Human Revolution. All the sounds now have added erm oompf? the PEPs gun is awesome sounding.
- Team Fortress 2. The menu music is great but ingame is just meh. Not sure how else to describe it but I guess it blends together mostly. No sound really stands out.
- Starcraft 2. Doesn't sound that good for me. Just meh
- NFS: hot pursuit on the 360. I've never noticed the distortion that the nitros had on the music before but now i do. Though I think the music is somewhat muddy sounding over the car noises.

Mixed feelings really but could I have made a better choice for the money? Still, I feel that I've got value for the money spent but it feels like I should have spent more on speakers and a dedicated sound card. Ah well.

I had my SP2200'S, AND i AM NOW RETURNING STRAIGHT AWAY. I get a high pitch whine from both speakers connected or unconnected, I think they used cheapo parts on the speakers noise insulation...

Shame really, Corsair have been like Apple of late and released product after product with rave reviews..but I think the cut corners here.

I am stuck now on a good set of 2.1's to get..

Hey Von that's more bad luck than anything :(

Yeah, I'd get a replacement set before you consider trying a different set altogether!

I've got the xonar DG now and I'm not sure if it's much better to be honest. BC2 and team fortress 2 have improved a fair bit but everything else I've tried doesn't really impress.

Btw my Creative T20's have grown on me since I had the misfortune to have some faulty SP2200's...I want the T40's now :)

I got both, the Z4's seem to lack range to me...oh and the bass sounds naff to me, to boomy.

Z4's are ok, but...I am sure there is something better out there. Haven't Z4's gone end of line?

I was thinking of getting either the Creative T40's or Edifier C2's, the C2's have an amp and remote control. The C2's only cost £79.99
