Im after buying this cable on ebay http://cgi.ebay.ie/Nvidia-GTX-260-2...uting_CablesConnectors_RL&hash=item3f09b9d8e3 and plugging it into my motherboards spdif and ground output but it still doesnt work, i changed the sound speaker to spdif too. But the cable i got was redand white instead of
black and white, would that make a differance?
Could i just make the sound come from the motherboard since it has hdmi and have the video coming from the gpu?
Thanks

You plug one end of the cable into the S/PDIF on your motherboard and the other end into your graphics card.

You then need to use HDMI from the graphics card to the monitor so that it carries the audio signal.

That way you'll get audio through your monitor's speakers, assuming it has some.

Im actually using a samsung tv instead of a monitor, there's only a dvi cable on the gpu so i cant use hdmi (gtx 280).

ya i had the dvi plugged in but there was still no sound. I have an asus m4a88t-m motherboard if it makes any difference.

DVI doesn't carry an audio signal.

The DVI connectors on the GPU are modified so that they carry audio over HDMI when used with an adapter.

DVI to DVI cable = video only, no audio.

DVI + HDMI adapter then HDMI to HDMI cable = video and audio.

Sorry for not explaining well, here a detailed explanation of what i did. I installed the gpu, i then connected the dvi to hdmi cable to my tv with the dvi end connected to the tv. I than put the s/pdif into the gpu and put the 2-pin end into the motherboards ground and s/pdif output. Thats what i did .
I may have put thewrong cable into the wrong mobo output so should i put the black coloured cable into the s/pdif output or into the ground output?
Thanks for helping anyway.

i then connected the dvi to hdmi cable to my tv with the dvi end connected to the tv.

I don't understand that bit.

Are you saying you have connected the HDMI end of the cable to the graphics card and the DVI end of the cable to the TV?

The graphics card has DVI connectors so how have you done that?

Does the TV have a DVI connector?

Oops sorry, said that wrong, i meant that i connected the hdmi end to the tv and dvi end to the gpu.
The tv has a dvi port too though, so should i just use dvi to dvi or stay using dvi to hdmi?
Maybe thats why the sound wont work?

The DVI to HDMI cable probably can't pick up the sound signals from the DVI. You must you a DVI to HDMI adapter for this, the card should have come with one. This will allow the sound signals to go through the card's DVI port and onto the HDMI cable, which then will go to your TV's speakers.

No you don't get sound through the DVI connection on the TV it has to be HDMI.

You've connected the S/PDIF cabled from the motherboard to the graphics card. Make sure this is connected the right way round at both ends.

You've connected the DVI on the graphics card to the TV with a DVI to HDMI cable. That's fine as long as the cable is suitable but you could try the other connector on the graphics card as I don't know if it works with both.

You need to be using the motherboard's onboard audio for the S/PDIF connection to the graphics card to work.

Ensure that the correct audio device is selected as the default audio device. Right click on the volume icon in the taskbar and select playback devices. Check the options and set the appropriate one as the default audio device. I'm not sure whether this will show as your motherboard's audio, S/PDIF or HDMI audio. You'll have to work out which one it is.

@Orcvader So a dvi-hdmi cable wouldnt work?Only a hdmi-dvi adaptor and plug the hdmi from tv to it and plug the dvi from gpu to it?Is that how it works? I got the gpu used so there was no hdmi to dvi cable with it.
@Surveyor ill try that out.

EDIT: i have a dvi-hdmi cable, would that work or would i need the adaptor?
