Hello

lads i needs you to recommend me a good AM2+ board that runs with the AMD Phenom X4 940BE

I would like it to have AM3 Compatibility but its not a MUST
DDR2 definitely but also DDR3 - Again not a must but i would like it.
Don't MIND Micro-ATX

basically just something that doesnt break the bank, will run the AMD Phenom X4 940BE with DDR2 Memory and can overclock it good.

I'm afraid what your after can no longer be purchased new.

Because your CPU is the Phenom II X4 940 BE it only has a DDR2 memory controller so even with a board that also supported DDR2 and DDR3 you would not be able to use DDR3 with your CPU.

The only motherboards OCUK have which support your CPU and memory are MATX and can be found here:

However these I know are not what you want.

Your best option to get what you want would be to place a wanted in the members market to see if anyone is upgrading a looking to sell a decent AM2+, DDR2, AMD chipset based ATX motherboard.

Otherwise its new CPU, Ram and motherboard I'm afraid...

thanks for the advice. i will purchase micro-atx, i dont mind.

will this do:

they say it only supports 95watts though is that true and will it run the 940be which is over 120 watts i think.

95% of those boards use cheap mosfets\voltage regulation, wouldn't trust them with a quadcore. Definitely not overclocking one. There should be a few decent boards on auction sites, if you don't mind purchasing used equipment. Alternatively you can try members market as gamesaregood suggested.

Cheers for the advice guys, im really stuck don't know what im looking for.......

can you throw a few motherboard names into the hat for me with a few links if possible, really stuck

Personally I would be looking for a motherboard based around the 770 / 780 / 790 AMD Chipset.

From one of the main players, Asus, Gigabyte, MSI etc...

Try posted a wanted on the Members Market and see what comes up.

Good AM2+ boards are difficult to find since it was a relatively short lived platform, the Gigabyte GA-MA785GM-US2H, GA-MA770-DS3 or Asus M4A77D are good. If you can't find an AMD chipset one then you're probably stuck with the microATX Geforce 6000\7000 ones which aren't that great.
