Sounds like you got off light, I would expect a fine at least, however I do think it's stupid that police can fine for you being drunk on something without an engine.
Side note: There is not drink drive limit for a canal boat, the police cannot fine or arrest you for being completely off your face, unless you cause damage to your boat, or someone elses property. Why do you think there's so many pubs by the canal side?
BTW, why doesn't this forum have a spell checker installed?

TBH she was pretty assertive with me, as I recall. I still wonder what my crime was though - being drunk in a public place I suppose, although I was in happy drunk mode and wasn't causing any harm to anyone.

There's no blood achohol limit for cycles, you only get stopped/charged if you look too drunk to do it safely. Most of the time drunk cyclists are fine, they can only really cause damage to themselves and are only risking their own lives which is probably why the law is pretty relaxed about it.
on a side note rode home from my mates house completely ****ed and there was a massive hill to go down on the way, i was so lucky not to stack it. It was probably one of the scariest moments of my life
