I find it quite commendable what Neil79 has done.
You have zero idea how he was bought up, where he lived, who he hung around with and the experiences he had which all contributed to the person he WAS.
He has made great efforts to obviously breakaway from that life and to sit down and think about it and change his thoughts and you have no right to preach to him when he already knows that in the past he was wrong.

Even the school I just left had racist people and I hate it when they say I'm not being racist afterwards or they say "I'm only joking".
One guy used to say "Bod bod ting ting 1.99/2.99" and the teacher would laugh, I was like wtf, you shouldn't laugh.

...Sounds stupid, doesn't it? About as stupid as discriminating based on the melanin content of someone's skin, anyway. That said I'm still trying to find out what colour hair and eyes Castiel and Freefaller have. They seem like thoroughly good chaps, but those damn brown-eyes get everywhere and you can never be too careful!...

I have green eyes and brown hair (with a bit of grey creeping through). As for skin, I have a natural tan. It's the redskin bit in me...

EDIT: ahhh ok its a derogatory term used against Asians ie pakistani and indians who were bus conductors....to be perfectly honest if someone said that to me, id just look at them with a blank look and wonder WTF are they saying it for.

Actually I too have brown hair and hazel/green eyes. I'm also going grey, but I don't have any redskin. Now you're just showing off!

Yet he's still saying "****", something you consider to be term only applicable in a racist way.
I'd respond differently if it actually looked like he thought it was actually wrong, rather than the way he put it across.
It's not really a case of "coming around" once he realised that it was wrong (seemingly he hasn't really) he should have stopped it, instead of the way he's gone about it.

I appreciate your point, however in this form of communication - a forum where you don't know the person or their background - then you have to take the post as it appears. There is no way of determining a person's childhood etc from a single post, and if Neil79 wants that to be taken into accout he should be more clear about it and stress that in his post.
I do however agree that if he has changed his opinions then he deserves respect for that, and he does seem to have somewhat cleared the confusion up a little bit.
He doesn't strike me as the most liberal minded chap, but anything is an improvement from not being friendly to "Pakis" because he received some annoying cold calls.
