According to statements from Connare, he never intended the font to be released for general use, and only designed it to be used in comic-book-style speech bubbles within MS Bob.

Hence the name.

I can tell you for a fact that the rumour must have spread all over Stoke because anywhere there is a 'special' place or Nursery, nearly all the signs/posters are in Comic Sans

Update:
After doing a bit of Googling your version is correct but the font has been recognised as one of the best fonts for Speech & Language.

Museo Sans is pure typographic sex for me. I also love Helvetica, Gill Sans, Futura, Garamond italics, Tahoma, Alpine Script, FellowMaiden.

I've more recently fallen in love with Aviano Sans and Semplicita Pro, found them through the MyFonts 'Rising Stars' newsletter which I highly recommend <3

Surprised no one has said Corbel. Nokia Pure (Nokia's new typeface to replace Nokia Sans) is nice too. There's quite a few other typefaces that I use as well.
