Japan Trip [Self Pimping Enclosed and long post warning!]

Sounds like you had an amazing time, GhostlyPea. I am looking at going Mar-Apr next year (cherry blossom season) with my wife and a couple of friends. Haven't booked it yet but we've all got money set aside for it.

May be in touch more nearer the time to get some more advice if that's ok with you! :)

Thanks for sharing! Looks amazing. I really really want to visit Japan... but not just a flying visit - but I just couldn't afford a long trip out there. Very envious - some of the pics are incredible.

How easy was it to get around? Must be hard being back in Bromley now! :D

From the times I've been before it's pretty easy to get around the vast majority of the time. Ok, you look at the map of the Tokyo rail/tube system and it looks hellishly complicated but when you actually come down to use it it is simpler even than the London underground (and they are sensible if you haven't paid enough fare ... you just top up to the amount you should have paid from a machine instead of being fined and beaten like in London). Also if you look lost, even if you aren't, then people will stop and help you (happened to my Dad a couple of times but he gets lost easily)

The bullet trains are pretty easy to use too.

@ Forde - I didn't :D I tried but it's one thing learning to speak it, totally another trying to understand the reply. i got on OK through common sense. most signage and public transport have English translations, there's usually an English menu too!

@ rapid64 - Defo, half of them walk around in their own little worlds though and won't notice you unless you bump into them!

@ Feek - yes mate, all by myself. Was a bit intimidating at first but I had all the freedom to do as I wanted

@ LukasBB - There are so many gardens and temples. the moss gardens in Hakone were amazing!

@ fieldy - Glad you enjoyed them :)

@ Freefaller - No problems, yes it was totally amazing! Bit of a downer being back in Bromley yes, want to go back again already :( Transport was so easy providing you have some common sense, everything is labelled well!

@ Spikey Willow - Defo! Please ask me anything you want, might as well share the experience and knowledge :) Mar-Apr is a great time to go, not onl because of the blossom but it's also a more bearable temperature and humidity :)

@ Pond ***** - The carp were everywhere, ponds, rivers, moats and lakes!

Took me over 2 years to save and prepare so it helps to start planning early anyway ;)
When I went, I had hardly planned it at all.
Planned to go to Egypt or Cyprus, had a bit more money than I thought I had and had always wanted to go to Japan so booked it and went about 4 weeks later :D
Stayed in Hiroshima, Tokyo, Osaka and Fukuoka. Visited the usual places like Kyoto, Kobe etc.

looks like you had a fab time. Went last year and proposed to my fiancee there. Most amazing place that words and pictures can't describe.

@ moss - brave man :D My routes on the blog but one ofthe great thing was visiting places on day trips like Kamakura and Nara. Easy and really shows off more of the country

@ Musty pie - yup :) Grats on the proposal, where did you do it and go?
