5970 to 6970CF?

You would only get rid of vram issues, such like being unable to max out Shogun 2, GTA4 etc. As of Q4 2011 I would wait for the 28nm cards. The flagships may come in Q1 2012.
 
Do what i did till next Gen, stick another 5870 with it just a fast as any cf, just the vram issue.

Went from (Unigine Heaven) 57.5, 1449 to 85.2, 2177 with tri-fire all stock
(6970 Xfire) - 2163
Not bad for £130, i play at 2560x1440 most games 60fps just under max setting, at your res np. No bottle neck same setup. Had my 5870 from OC clearance lines was cheaper than silly money some going for on Ebay.
