In all seriousness though, at least you're getting more "stuck in" to a degree.

Ah right I understand, just making sure you know what you're letting yourself in for :D

Sounds like you're pretty aware :) I wish people kept that fitness attitude after joining, everyone seems to just let it slip :o

I really hope I don't do that but you never know till you're there.. like I always tell people "I'm happy to go on tour.. I say that now but when I'm over there it'll be different but who knows!"

I've heard all the horror stories about being in the Army but I've also heard all the good stories that come from it to so for me I'll have to see which way it goes.

I just wanna do it.. I really think I'll enjoy it, even if it is hard as nails I'm up for a challenge which is probably why its frustrating when things that go wrong are out of my control. Ah well, 4 weeks and we'll see what the score is!

They actully use BMI for determining if a person is allowed in or not? Would that not rule out everyone who has built up a fair ammount of muscle as BMI does not take into consideration the difference between fat and muscle mass?

Yeah and no - if you're clearly fat then they go by BMI but if you're over the BMI but you're an athelete/body builder I'm pretty sure if you go for a doctors approval note (I forget what its called) and they go by body fat % or something so it doesn't rule out the people you describe.. was a big thing about it years ago IIRC

Yeah they use BMI as a recruitment requirement for some inane reason. It's just ridiculous, I know people that've tried transferring from the royal marines only to be told their BMI is too high -_- that was some time ago, I think they use waist measurement as well now.

ToejaMz0r, have you been back to talk to the RAF and Navy? Please don't be one of those people who joins the Army blindly then regrets it :o

As for the interview you want to really know more current event type stuff. I got asked about our operations past and current and about where we are based. Have a good little speech why you want to be in your trade and why you want to be in the army as a whole.

And for toejamz0r you need to really be as fit as you can be for basic training. If you don't have to worry about the phys you can really concentrate on your other training aspects aswell as finding exercises easier.

I went pretty unfit and the phys was the worse part but I'm not bad at the rest of the soldiering. My unit does phys everyday with CO's PT on fridays, while at trade training we had PT 2 times a week and wednesday sports, it ends up being not enough for people to keep up their fitness before going out to the field force.

Posting from my mates account **

Keep it up mate you'll get there :)

I've spent a morning learning about I.P Adressing and slash notation...I haven't done this since cosford nearly 5 years ago...my head hurts :(

Pfft, thought you crab techs where all over this stuff :p.

3 times a week compulsory PT for us, inc battlefield PT :o

I've done 3 PT sessions in the past 6 months lol. Been on so many STA courses mind you, not exactly had the chance.

GOt my selection at pirbright tommorow, any last minute tips? :)

Drink, heavily.

Nah, just put your best effort in, it'll show. You end up seeing so many people who seem to put half arsed effort in, and it doesn't look good. Doesn't matter if you're not the fittest there, the most confident etc, just try your best.

Stick with the application mate, it is a proper ball ache the time waiting and it's easy for your head to drop but it really is worth it. It took me 15months from walking into the AFCO to starting basic.

Don't take basic too seriously and never take anything to heart even if you do mess up because it's all a game and you don't need to be action man to get through it.

You don't need to be super fit either half of the stuff you just can't train for until you do it either. You will learn to love green PT lol.

I guess you never know how you will cope till your in it, people drop out and leave for random reasons which more often than not are nothing to do with them not being fit enough, some people just can't hack the whole army lifestyle or just don't get it

Yeah they use BMI as a recruitment requirement for some inane reason. It's just ridiculous, I know people that've tried transferring from the royal marines only to be told their BMI is too high -_- that was some time ago, I think they use waist measurement as well now.

They also use callipers to determine body fat on males. Not so for females.

I have just been given details of my medical pension. I have been awarded a lump sum of £18,000 and a monthly payment of £500 a month. It's more than I was expecting tbh but I would still rather be in the RAF, going to miss it.

''First transmitted in 1985, this series follows the progress of 25 prospective members of the Mountain and Arctic Warfare Cadre (MAWC), a specialist unit of the Royal Marines.''

I enjoyed the series and thought it may be of interest to some of you.

All seven parts of it can be found on BBC iplayer, here...

was a training course run by a bunch of ex MAWC guys the other week - they had some crazy stories about falling off mountains :o
id bet at least one of them is in that program but I cant tell because they all have the same mustache!

also watched that Bomb Squad and then the program after, some savage injuries in both programs, excellent use of gopro cameras though on the EOD guys though
