surely the game itself must be finished with just over a month until release, what with disc production, packaging & shipping etc

a demo/beta in 2 weeks time isn't going to give them anything else they could change with the final game, maybe server side tweaks and a head start for the 1st patch :)

Exactly, it's just no one calls it a demo anymore

My thoughts exactly!!

Imo the game is pretty much completed. However after 'beta' DICE may just add few minor tweaks and then that's it.

Lol it won't be a complete overhaul of the whole game in less than 2-3 weeks before the release date:p

Running 64 players matches would mean scaling things down like vehicles, destruction ect. These are key pillars of what Battlefield is all about

Finding it hard to be pessimistic when they say stuff like that

all MP demos for BF games have appeared ~4 weeks before release
About a month pre game was my thinking, the gold date will be not long after making the beta idea slightly dubious.
How long was the last stage of BC2 'demo' I swear it was over quicker then 4 weeks

Can you imagine if Dice discovered a major hidden bug which affected the whole game just before the release date!!

Didnt that happen with bf2 and various patches

The only thing demo/beta will really test is hackability by rogue elements and also large scale server rollouts

We can look at this 2 ways either ea are not sure yet if it will be ready in time ,or they are holding off on the demo to get more people to order in advance to get sales up as the game will be a huge disappointment and once the reviews come out the game is just a tarted up bc2 ? I hope not but given dices last few games do you really think that they will change from format they have been using .....tbh the more videos I see the more disappointed I am getting the jet video has all these red markers over enemies etc ! Come on do away with the cartoony crap and up the realisim , btw I have pre ordered on origin so I am not dissing the game yet .......

BF2 also had markers for spotted enemies, in BF2 it was just a red name tag but now its an icon for vehicles, doesn't really make that much difference.

Not on screen it did not, you got the red name of the enemy but you had to be close and be pointing directly at them to see it and spotting never showed it, all spotting was done via mini map.

That was then, this is now. The new spotting system shouldn't really make much of a change to the gameplay. In bf2 you could even see nametags through smoke screens, dumb move but i don't recall too many complaints about it.

BTW, still waiting on my tenner.
