Difficulty returning a faulty keyboard. Not through OCUK.

Less than 3 months ago I purchased a keyboard on Amazon but not directly from them. It was from a small company called "3B-IT."

Some of the keys are faulty, so I raised an RMA query through the email they provided on Amazon. This email contained what the fault is, what I did to try and remedy it (drivers, different ports etc.) and that I had created a video demonstrating the fault for proof if they tried to fob me off and attempt to send it back after "testing" it.

The morning after I received a reply from them telling me: "Can you please contact Microsoft Support on 01954 713950 (UK Landline). They will be able to help further and issue a warranty replacement if necessary."

I have reason to believe that they are trying to fob me off. Surely after just 3 months I shouldn't have to take it up with the manufacturer? All that would get me is a replacement and I really don't want another one of these keyboards just to have it develop the same fault again.

Is my situation covered in any sort of rule or regulation? It states "3 year warranty" in the description by 3B-IT but doesn't state it's manufacturer warranty. Misleading.

If I need to remove any references to Amazon, just tell me. Just not sure where I stand fr a refund.

Thanks.

Just say that as per the sales of good act you are returning it to the retailer and ask for a replacement or that they get it fixed, be polite but firm.

If they don't honour the warranty Amazon will sort it out, the marketplace sellers have to abide by Amazon rules when they start selling and (though I haven't read them), I'm sure there will be a clause stopping them dodging warranty claims!

Just a note for the future, buy Logitech, best customer service in the business!

What about a refund? I'm not interested in another one of these keyboards. The Sale and Supply of Goods to Consumers Regulations doesn't seem to have anything on the subject of a refund.

I really appreciate the help. And about what you said about Logitech's CS, I'd agree with you if I were dealing with Microsoft in this situation.

As far as I understand it they are under obligation to fix the problem, whether that's a repair/swap/refund is up to them.

To be honest a refund is incredibly unlikely, if they tried to shove you off onto Microsoft for a basic fault like that I don't think you will get money out of them easily. I think a swap is the most likely outcome...however if they are an Amazon merchant I suppose it depends on how much they shift.

If they are a major supplier using Amazon as an easy shop front with a wide reach you may be lucky, if it's Joe Bloggs flogging excess stock that he keeps in his garage who operates under a mantra of "I'm not a shop" [/OCUKmeme] then it may take longer.

You're not going to get a refund after 3 months.

Out of interest, which keyboard is it, and what is the fault?

Ooooh easy tiger, I think bumping gets you suspended on these boards.

I apologise. I've bumped before and haven't had any problems. Edited the post just in case though..

By the looks of their activity, it seems like a smallish shop and not some random guy selling through amazon.

Gah, this will be incredibly irritating if I don't get a refund.

Edit:

You're not going to get a refund after 3 months.

Sidewinder X6 and 3 of my keys (9, 0 and o) have become much less sensitive. I miss a lot of "o"s and have to correct them when typing fast.

Is it still possible at all that they might refund me though? Or is it a definite no?

...

We can't answer that, you just need to talk to them!

As you've been told by several posters, they are under no obligation to refund you, they will probably swap it out.

I don't think we can answer the same question in any other way.

Let us know what they say!

I sent them another email saying that I really didn't want another one of these keyboards as I didn't want to be in the same situation again in 3 months time, now he's asking for my Amazon order number and keyboard serial. :D
