Max Payne 1 Win 7 64

Can anyone get this game working?

I have applied the sound fix patch as provided over at the 3drealms forum but every time I get past the intro and it loads into the next bit it crashes to desktop and says "Max Payne has stopped working".

I've tried compatibility options and running as administrator etc but still no luck.

I know this probably doesn't help you much, but my steam version works just fine on Win7 64bit. Maybe checking their forum would help?

There is a newer version of the sound fix patch posted on Steam forums

which is 2 years newer than the 3d realms version.

I am just trying it out now. Are you playing from retail disc or Steam?

Update: Installed, patched and running fine here on Win 7 x64.

Yeah I did but not sure it's the same as mine being the old retail version.

Yeah it's retail disc (original one when it came out :x). Maybe I should just get the steam version and see if it works any better.

Did you also apply the main game patch to take it to 1.05?

(Steam version is already 1.05 but retail will be 1.0)

I had to download something from a website to play it last time, it's on my computer at home though.

I got it working in the end. I just got the steam version. I think my game wasn't installing properly from the disc as it was old anyway.
