Did have a previous thread but never specified a budget, well now have 2k to ***** on a first car for my daughter who passed her test a couple months ago. I'm planning on getting insurance in her name with my wife as a named driver, with all the insurance hikes the car needs to be very insurance friendly.

Cars that she thinks she likes are Corsa, Fiesta and 206, although I'm not too keen on the 206 and it must be a 4/5 door. Are there others that I should be considering, Ka was mentioned in the previous thread but that's only got 2/3 doors, I quite like the Clio, well I do when it's a hire car in Europe but am not clued up how reliable they might not be.

Yaris is a good call, never thought of the Yaris, once I have a line up of models I'm going to waste hours of life doing some insurance quotes :(

Can your daughter add any money into the purchase of the car?
Paying some of their own money towards it will make them treat it a heck of a lot better!

You think??

Kids think money grows on trees these days, they don't seem to treat anything with respect, paid for by themselves or not IMO.

well at that price range no point in looking for set types of cars, best to look for a car with cheapest insurance / best serviced /lowest milege etc.
Rember first cars get bumped and pranged all the time or end up embedded in the only haystack in northwales...

i would look at theses tbh:
Renualt Clio,+ parts are cheap, servicing cheap, - french built/ insurance can be high
Fiat Punto gen 3., + designed for women (small pedals, close together) cheap parts, insurance is relatively good, - some issues with older worn out models

Peugoet 206, Gen 2 + french so parts are cheap as is servicing, lower grp insurance, - its french

Corsa C, + cheap parts - vauxhall build quality - higher than average insurance

Yaris, bulletproof mechnicals and relativly cheap to insure, kinda bland inside

Citreon C2, scene taxed to hell, low priced versions have astronomical mileage but has quite cheap insurance and runnign costs.

Nissan Micra, bulletproof japanese build quality, low insurance, ok drive quality and quite a good few good reviews online (2002 shape +)

dont get a ford ka, they rust and being inside one is like being inside a battered transit van on the ruthest roads on earth....:( (noise form road, wind and engine)

anyway thats the list of cars i looked at for my ex, tbh i wouldnt be bothered with paying extra for a german car i.e polo or a premium ford because she will dent it for get to fill it with oil, best bet is to get a cheap car that the scrappiues have lots of and has cheap parts but thats just my thoughts.

I don't agree with that as some of Us do respect things.

As you said the feeling of buying something with your own money, that you have worked hard for is the best feeling:D:D

At the moment im building my first car 72 vw bug:D:D

I can't tell if your being honest or just taking the mick, you havn't used smilies:D:D

But yeah hoping i can get it fuel injected to:D

It works out if i put a roll cage in,race seats, harnesses, bigger engine, fuel injected i can get same insurance quote £1800 as a corsa B (My mates car)

Roll cage is a good plan, with the utterly crap suspension on the Beetle they like to fall over on corners if driven hard.
