is there something like this, but actually powerful/fast enough for work:

my boss wants a new laptop and an ipad. i cant help but think its a waste of cash.

but im struggling to find a decent laptop with touchscreen capabilities. i would like one that the screen can swivel so it can be used as a touchpad when he is out and about, but then can be used as a proper laptop when needed in the office.

the android ones just arent good enough to view the large CAD drawings we use all the time here.

I've been looking for something similar myself that can really replace my laptop, but I think we're probably a year or 2 away from something like that...

hmm... its expensive for what it is. almost cheaper to buy an ipad and laptop of equal spec.

i think he is going to go with ipad and have my desktop.... looks i can upgrade finally! :) joy!!!!! pentium d 2.8Ghz... and its massive 3.6 windows experience index rating!

what about one of these dell inspiron duo things? ipad seems like an expnsive thing if you have to get an additional computer too, can he not just take prints on to site like the good old days?!
are you sure an ipad will be capable of opening a large cad file?

it's a bit chunky but given the op wants "...a decent laptop with touchscreen capabilities. i would like one that the screen can swivel so it can be used as a touchpad when he is out and about, but then can be used as a proper laptop when needed in the office."
i think a duo is pretty bang on!

Duo.

Shoddy battery life, laggy touchscreen from what i've read/seen.

And its bulky, and weighs probably 3 or 4 times that of the iPad2 :p.

Why not just get an ultra-portable notebook OP?

They are powerful, cheap in some cases, decent screen res.

Or as someone else has said, a tablet, and then a cheap laptop, C2D ULV or something. More than adequate.
