Sinn Fein's Martin McGuinness is on the verge of running in the Irish presidential election.
Ireland's deputy first minister has been approved by the party's officer board. It will now go before the party executive for formal approval.
If Mr McGuinness was elected, he would have to give up his job as deputy first minister.
During the campaign he is expected to stand aside temporarily. Another Sinn Fein minister would stand in.

How does everyone feel about this?
I would imagine that many people both sides of the border find the idea of McGuinness as president repulsive, I also imagine that there are people who will say he abandoned the armed struggle in favour of politics and should be free to stand.
Either way I imagine he will face some tough question if his selection is ratified.
