Hi all :)
Just about to put together a gaming PC, I would like the Geforce GTX 590 graphics card, and trying to get some info on this card :)

Now, for starters, I have just ordered the Dell UltraSharp U2711 27" Widescreen LCD Monitor Res@2560x1440 with Inputs: 1x Analogue, 2x DVI-D, 1x HDMI, 1x DisplayPort, 1x Composite & 1x Component.
The GTX 590 only has (from what I know by reading about) 3xDVI-I and 0xHDMI connecters. Now, being very green about things like this
Will the GTX590 connect to this monitor? What is the different in DVI-D (monitor) and DVI-I (GTX590)? What about the no HDMI connector on the 590, how would I be able to have HD without a HDMI connector?

Sorry if I sound "Stupid" and somewhat "Panicky" (just spent £500 on Monitor) But will this Monitor marry with the GTX590?

Need some help learning :)

Theres nothing you really need to worry about. DVI-D will only send and/or recieve digital only signals where as the DVI-I can send and recieve both analogue and digital signals.

The monitor will recieve data from the 590 and it will display perfectly. And yes, DVI will do HD and then some.

+1 the DVI-D cable that comes with the monitor will happily plug straight into the DVI-I port on your graphics card and it will all work fine.

The image quality of DVI and HDMI is the same, the main difference is the the connector shape and that HDMI carries sound.

Thank you so much :) It's sometimes very hard to understand Techno jargon. But both you guys have explained very well ...and thank you again for your knowledge :)

Panic over now :)

PS: In your expert opinions ....Doing SLI (With TWO) GTX590's, would this be considered overkill at this time? baring in mind, the Res@2560x1440 and today's games (I'm thinking HMM yes maybe, would I be right?

I would say so, for three reasons:

- A single GTX 590 is more than a match for any modern games at high settings at this resolution - so quad SLI (adding a second dual-GPU GTX 590 card) wouldn't improve perceptible performance much.

- Quad SLI scaling is not great (adding a second dual-GPU card nowhere near doubles the performance).

- As it is, the GTX 590 is a power hungry and hot card. Add a second card to your existing rig then your power bills jump up, your parts will get even hotter and the noise will go up by a significant amount.

Thank you ..well put, and explained :)...I just found out also, (I knew already this card has dual-GPU's) never knew that, a Single 590 card, is classed as running in SLI by the PC ..Doh!!
One single GTX590 it is then :)....Thanks again my friend ;)

I'd be inclined to go for 2 GTX 580s over the failure that is the 590.

Failure?...Now you have worried me:eek: Having read up on these cards, 5 reviews, a solid 3 hours reading, not yet come across any failures that I know of...Please tell me more, or can you link? :(

Hope I can link to this : http://techreport.com/discussions.x/20677 This is what I found, is this what you were meaning? A 267.52 driver issue?....thought that had been resolved? Besides that, I shall not be OC'ing the card anyway....Anymore info I should know about?

Don't panic lol!

I personally think the card is overpriced and overkill as it is.

What's wrong with dual 6950's. £400... so your saving plenty of cash?

That setup will max out any game at that res... surely!

Check out the frames for Crysis warhead at your super high res with dual 6950's

HaHa..Yes a probably do sound a little panicky!! :) I am in a subject I know very little about, as you can guess :o
I don't want to come across as being a guy that is stupid with his cash ether :)

There are two reasons I want a GF GTX590, 1) I have always had an nVidia card right from the FX5200 .....2) Now that the GTX590 is nVidia's flagship I would like to have it....But that don't mean, I won't look at AMD if the GTX590 has problems, all really I want is, a PC that plays new games really well, (I am also heavily into Photography) and that the hardware inside are all working happily together, without too many problems

So has the GTX590 got problems/Issues?....Is going SLI with two 580's better then one single GTX590....Seems like I'm opening a large can of worms..I think my CPU's in overload :D

Thanks for all the help ;)

SLi 580s perform better than the 590 since the 590 is basically two heavily underclocked 580s. Even two 6950s in Crossfire will beat it. So I would save some money and go for this, or go for two 570s in SLi if you wish to stay with Nvidia.

+1 does not help they reduced the clock speeds after the reviews of the 590 to make them more stable increaseing the 580's lead further.

I'm not saying the 590 isn't a great card. However... it's not the smart choice, IMO of course.

I would personally SLI 570's before I got a 590. I would also rather Xfire 6970's.

Nothing wrong with liking Nvidia. Feel free to stick with them. Just think a bit more before spending silly amounts on a 590. As said... it does appear to be two underclocked 580's.
